Befuddled hawk just can’t seem to understand why “duck” isn’t scared of him

May 3rd, 2021

In the animal kingdom, all creatures aren’t considered equals. Some animals are prey, and some animals consider themselves to be apex predators. One of those is a hawk – their fierce, powerful and menacing, so it’s not hard to understand why most animals would be afraid of these winged warriors.

In fact, hawks tend to expect their prey to be scared of them. At least a little.

This poor hawk was in for a rude awakening when he met an incredibly unperturbed duck.

The ‘duck’ wasn’t even scared in the slightest and the hawk was completely confused and perplexed. Who would possibly not be afraid of him?

Reactions of animals can definitely end up being truly hilarious, even if they’re coming from apex predators. They simply don’t see the world like we humans do, which ends up in some unique reactions that are definitely worthwhile to see.

This hawk’s attitude toward the sitting duck keeps getting funnier by the moment.

This hawk isn’t used to animals not being scared of him, and he clearly doesn’t like the idea of it.

He even tries his best to look even angrier and scarier.

However, this duck that wasn’t scared of him, wasn’t really a duck at all.

It was just a plastic duck, albeit a very realistic one, as a garden ornament.

Wildlife can definitely be quite remarkable sometimes. Lucky for us, an interested bystander managed to capture this whole ‘interaction’ between these two on his smartphone and shared it on YouTube.

With more than 2.4 million views on the video platform, this hawk’s hilarious antics quickly went viral and were seen around the world.

He must’ve thought he found the perfect prey, but he didn’t expect it to be so lifeless.

The hawk certainly didn’t expect that this day would have such difficulties. He was just flying around, hoping to find a meal in the neighborhood. A completely still duck right in the middle of some green is absolutely the thing you’d want to spot. Dinner is served, he must’ve thought.

And when he goes in for the kill, something just doesn’t add up.

The duck doesn’t move an inch and the hawk is super confused. It’s as if he’s completely rejected by the duck, and he’s not having any of it.

Right away, we can see the majestic bird pacing around from left to right, even trying to attack the duck on numerous occasions. Those sharp talons were definitely used a lot – but with no response from the duck at all. Pretty logical of course, if it’s just an ornament.

After two minutes of attacks, pacing, and attempts to scare the duck, the hawk simply doesn’t know what to do anymore.

He decided to call it quits and just flew away.

This duck clearly wasn’t attractive anymore as a tasty treat, so the hawk went off to find something else to eat.

After the bystander posted the video on YouTube, the comments quickly came rolling in.

“He keeps looking around like someone is playing a prank on him lol,” one person commented on YouTube.

“Hawk is like: ‘Usually some talons to the face gets a frantic response'”

“Imagine this hawk trying to explain to his wife and children why he couldn’t bring home dinner that day. They wouldn’t believe him,” someone joked.

Some people didn’t seem to realize what was going on either:

“It took me way too long to realize that the duck was fake…..” another wrote.

A lot of commenters even praised the ‘duck’ for his stoic calmness!
