The world has big plans for Benny. In the future, he will play a very important role.
You see, Benny is going to be a guide dog.
He’ll help completely change someone in need’s life as the eyes for someone who is blind or as a service dog for a veteran or first responder.
So, Benny is kind of a big deal. Or at least he will be. At least the folks at Guide Dog Foundation where Benny was born think so.
The Guide Dog Foundation was founded in 1946 to offer trained guide dogs free of charge to the visually impaired or others in need to increase their independence. The folks at the Guide Dog Foundation think Benny is ready for the challenge of being a guide dog which comes with some big responsibilities.
But he didn’t exactly make the best impression on his first day on the job though.
Actually, he wasn’t even on the job yet, it was his initiation. Benny was just six weeks old when he was taken for his initiation photo shoot.
All the puppies at the Guide Dog Foundation get photo shoots and everyone was looking forward to this day.
Benny was excited too, at first.
But apparently, there wasn’t enough excitement for Buddy, or maybe it was too much excitement. Either way, he got a little sleepy during his photo.
So, he decided to take a nap. In the middle of his photo shoot.
It started out slow and he tried to resist it.
But that nap was calling him and he couldn’t help but answer. So, he went from slumping a little to just flat out tipping over into a slumber.
“During the shoot, Benny looked sleepier than ever, and we could see him starting to doze off so we quickly began filming just in time to watch him slowly tip over,” Rebecca Eden, the internet marketing coordinator at the Guide Dog Foundation, told The Dodo. “Our nursery staff and photographer were all giggling, and you can hear one staff member say, ‘Goodnight,’ as he dozes off.”
Thankfully, the photographers were able to snap a few good photos of him before he dozed off that could be used to announce his initiation into the program.
Benny is currently seven months old and is undergoing training.
His training is going well but he’s way better at playing and taking naps for now.
According to the Guide Dog Foundation’s Facebook page, it takes about two years for a puppy to become fully trained.
Apparently, Benny isn’t the only puppy who gets sleep during their photos. You’ll find a few drowsy doggos on the foundation’s Facebook page.
The video of Benny falling asleep in the middle of his photo shoot ended up being viewed more than 11.2 million times.
“We’ve all been there Benny,” said one commenter.
“He’s been training very hard and needs a snoozle,” said another.
