“The first time my sister ever went to this mall, she was with my dad and Thai just veered right into the store without her knowing,” Michele told The Dodo.
“The second time we went back there, I wanted to witness it for myself, so we walked in the direction of the pet store and of course he walked right in there again!”
Danielle Sykora has two eyes that see for her, but they’re not her own. They belong to her guide dog, Thai. The two were paired together about four years ago.
Thai makes sure that Danielle safely gets everywhere she needs to go.
Included her weekend trips from Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pennsylvania to her home in New Jersey. This is when she and her sister, Michele, make sure to stop by the mall to do a little shopping.
But the Sykora sisters aren’t the only ones who likes to do go shopping.
Thai makes sure to stop into his favorite store, a pet supply store called Cool Dog Gear.
The only thing is that he doesn’t run it by Danielle. He just walks the two of them right into the store unbeknownst to her.
And Michele caught the whole thing on video.
“My sister’s guide dog always sneakily walks her into this store without her knowning,” she wrote in her Twitter video post. “I love dogs, man.”
It didn’t take long for that video to go viral.
But this isn’t the first time that Thai has done something like this. He often guides Danielle into a Starbucks at her school because he knows that she loves coffee and he loves their Puppucinos.
He also brought her into every single food establishment on the boardwalk during their summer vacation.
He conveinitently skipped over the store with clothing which Danielle wanted to shop in.
“If there is any word to describe Thai, it is probably ‘foodie,’” Michele said. “He will do anything to get a crumb on the floor.”
He may like to do a few things for himself every now and then but he loves Danielle very much and takes good care of her.
They love each other very much.
“Thai and Danielle have a relationship only a person with a service dog could ever understand. He is her eyes. He goes with her absolutely everywhere,” Michele said. “Even when Thai isn’t working and we are home, if she leaves the room he will get up and follow her everywhere.”
Danielle has been blind since she was 2-years-old and had surgery for retinoblastoma.
Michele says having Thai has made her life a lot easier.
“[A cane] only shows you obstacles below wast level,” Michelle explained. “Thai helps her get around muchmore easily and finds things on command such as elevators, empty seats, stairs, and obviously… pet stores.”
Michele says that Thai was specifically chosen for Danielle based on his personality.
And apparently, he is quite the entertainer.
“The foundation my sister got him from, the Guide Dog Foundation, selects dogs for you based off their personality,” Michele added. “Thankfully, they stuck her with Thai because not only is he her service dog, but he is definitely our family’s entertainment as well.”
