Dogs have served many purposes in the world of humans. Some help us hunt, some help us retrieve lost or missing items, and some help us raise and maintain livestock! Truly, there isn’t a limit to what we have trained and bred dogs to do.
For a long time (and even now), dogs are brought into a family as a way of warning and protection.
Getting a dog is like adding an extra layer of security to your home. If someone walks up to the house, dogs have an innate ability to know it. Usually, they bark (even when someone isn’t there), and that is enough to scare off an offending human or squirrel.
As anyone who has a dog knows, however, dogs don’t always do what they’re told!
One video shows that even the most well-bred dogs don’t always follow in the footsteps of their ancient ancestors. In Fort Worawut Lomwanawong, one guard dog was caught slacking on the job.
A jewelry store in Chang Ma, Thailand, recently had their guard dog put to the test.
The owner decided that he was going to test his own store for its security. The dog, Lucky, was laying outside and relaxing near the entrance to the store. When the training program began, the failures started!
The CCTV footage shows the entire exercise and captured exactly how funny the results were.
In the video, we see a man run-up to the counter with a fake gun and threatened the cashier! The situation could have been terrifying if this wasn’t just a training exercise and the gun was actually real. If only there was a hero around that could help with this scary intruder!
There was! Lucky decided that he was going to… to… do absolutely nothing.
Lucky LITERALLY looked like a bump on a log and didn’t move an inch. As an armed man ran into the store, the dedicated guard dog had no idea that anything bad was even happening. They might need to change his name to Unlucky!
All this did was show the priorities of their sleepy dog.
Sleeping dogs don’t have higher priorities than continuing to sleep, and we see that happen with Lucky precisely. This test seemed to show them that they needed two things: a better security system and maybe a new guard dog!
It makes sense, too – huskies historically make bad guard dogs!
Certain breeds are naturally better at guarding and protecting things. Huskies are known to make bad guard dogs as they’re just too welcoming of strangers and random people! The AKC even says:
As born pack dogs, Siberians enjoy family life and get on well with other dogs; their innate friendliness render them indifferent watchdogs.
While Lucky may not have passed his test, he is still doing a good job of relaxing and hanging out.
We can’t say that we hate his philosophy, either! Why worry about all that weird paper stuff in the cash register when there are dreams with things to pee on that need my attention instead?
