It was late at night when a couple from Florida found an abandoned dog on the road near Oviedo, who was about to get hit by a car.
The dog was hardly responsive, and his fur was badly matted. It was clear that it had been neglected for most of his life, so the couple decided to take action. It’s hard to not feel bad for a stray dog that looks hurt, neglected, hungry, or alone.
They picked up the dog and sent out a request for help on social media.
The couple did not have to wait very long until Kari Falla, a local groomer, responded to their plea.
Falla had worked with shelters in the past to offer free grooming services and, therefore, felt compelled to help relieve some of the stray dog’s pain.
Fall told “Inside Edition” that when a dog is matted so badly, it could cause the dog to bruise or its blood flow to stop. She decided to open her grooming salon at midnight to take care of the poor dog that desperately needed the urgent care.
“I knew it was bad, but nothing prepared me for what I saw. It smelled like death, and the dog could not walk.”
After tirelessly working all night, Kari Falla was able to shave him completely and give him a bath.
“Once we shaved him, he was wagging his tail and was so happy. I knew I did the right thing.”
After that, she took the dog to the vet for an examination and a neutering. The dog, which the veterinarians believe to be a Goldendoodle mix, stayed at the vet overnight.
When he was first found, the dog’s mats were soaking wet, full of yeast infection, infested with fleas, and attached like a mummified cast.
It turned out that the dog, which they decided to call Lucky, is blind and deaf. Luckily, it is undergoing a very successful recovery and is currently placed in a foster home. If you want to follow Lucky’s journey in finding a forever home, you can do so on Kari Falla’s BGE Grooming Facebook page.
After sharing the dog’s story on her Facebook page, Kari started to receive an incredible amount of love and support from strangers, all thanking her for her selfless act and for alleviating the dog of his pain. The employees of the BGE Grooming have kept the Facebook page updated, so that Lucky’s new fans can keep track of how he is doing.
How would you react if you found a stray dog in such a terrible condition?
If you do come across a stray dog on the road, make sure that you check if the dog has an ID tag first. Be safe and, if possible, try to restrain the dog. If injured or sick, a dog can become very unpredictable, so it is always important to put your safety first. Finally, report to local shelters that you have found a dog and spread the word on social media. If an owner is looking for a lost pet, this will probably be the first place he or she will look. If the dog is abandoned, the local shelter will take care of healing and cleaning the dog before putting it up for adoption.

We were sent this video after he was groomed last night. THIS is why we opened at a moment’s notice to help this little baby.
When he was brought to us by the transporter , he couldn’t even walk. He was carried in. His hair was so matted they became casts all over his body . He could not walk let alone wag his tail. He could not poop, his butt was sewed shut with matting. He couldn’t feel you touching him, the mats were so thick it was insane. He was suffering.
Look how happy he is now! 😍😍😍😍😍
