Many of us know the vibe well.

Chada, a rescued bear, has gone viral after a video of her waking up from slumber disoriented. She is one of the rescues at White Rock Bear Shelter in Ukraine.

The caption wrote:

“This is me starting the working week. Good morning. We’re all like Chada on Monday.” Though the video was hilarious and the bear looked somehow peaceful and contented, her life story was not all naps and plays.

Chada, a Himalayan bear, was born on December 24, 1998. Her parents came from the wild in Central Asia and were brought to the Soviet Union as an attraction in circuses and zoos.

Their species are already listed in the International Red List and flagged as endangered.

Chada has been exploited in Ukrainian circuses since she was a cub.

She spent her days traveling across the country, touring. Her trainer sold her to another person who was on circus shows.

But eventually, she was left in a small cage in an industrial zone in Kyiv’s suburbs where she spent 7 years. Activists noticed the bear and then organized a rescue.

She was transferred to a temporary shelter but the condition was still not good for a captive bear.

Finally, on July 16th of 2019, Chada was brought to White Rock where she is now happily residing.

The years in the circus and being detained in a poor environment took a toll on Chada’s eyesight.

She almost had no teeth left, too.

But this did not hinder her from enjoying the days ahead. She is one of the stars in the sanctuary’s bear family and often be seen playing.

But what made her more famous was a video of her waking up from her sleep, coming out of a makeshift den.

Most thought she’d been sleeping for months.

You would have thought the bear came out from her hibernation, which most of the commenters mistakenly thought it was.

She just woke up from a nap.

With messy hair and a drowsy look on her face, anyone can totally relate to what she was feeling in the now-viral video.

She was shedding her winter fur, thus the bedhead. Though they are related to brown bears, Chada is from the Himalayan subspecies.

During the day, she is playful and active. And the shelter often posts photos and videos on their Instagram account.

She’s enjoying the peace and her caretakers allowed her to live at her own pace.

Chada’s character and thirst for life have made her a star.

“Chada had a difficult life but remained a fighter. And she became the star of our bear family because of her character and zest for life,” the sanctuary wrote on its website.
