The pain of loss is indescribable.
We, humans, suffer this kind of pain in so many ways. We lose family, friends, and lovers. We even suffer the loss of success and opportunities.
We’ve always thought that this is a purely human thing. We couldn’t be any more wrong. Animals, especially our pets, grieve a loss as much and as hard as we do. But fortunately, they heal in the love they found after the darkest days.
Linda held Wyatt close to her chest.
Just by looking at Wyatt’s eyes, you’d know that he was going through the worst of days. His solemn blank stare is screaming that he just wants the sadness to be over.
That day, Wyatt lost one of the most precious things he has. He lost his sibling Mavis. And just looking at Wyatt, one would know the tremendous impact Mavis had on Wyatt’s life.
Linda gave Wyatt the space to mourn, and in doing so, she discovered something.
Wyatt has a big heart that’s just full of love. He was to take care of others and build relationships. Linda knew that Wyatt had so much love to give.
There’s only one problem. This love was going nowhere. At that point, Wyatt’s family knew they had to channel this love onto something. They need to get Wyatt a new sibling.
The family drove three hours to the Mojave Desert.
After the journey wrapped in the sweltering heat, Linda was welcomed with a familiar kind of warmth. When Lenny came into the room, he was already all smiles.
His tail was wagging, and he was just trying to get close to Wyatt as much as he could. Shortly after the introduction, Wyatt was running and jumping around Lenny as well.
The family took Lenny home with them.
The two hit it off right at the beginning. The moment they got home, Wyatt took out all of his toys and let Lenny run around with them.
Linda also bequeathed Mavis’ things to Lenny as they don’t have any stuff for the new dog yet. Fortunately, Mavis’ stuff, like her leash and harness, fit Lenny perfectly. It was as if Mavis had chosen Lenny to be Wyatt’s new friend and the family’s new guardian.
The two have been inseparable ever since.
Wherever Lenny is, you’d see Wyatt not too far behind. They both love going on long walks or just lounging around on the bed.
For Lenny, it’s all about learning how to love and accept family. For Wyatt, it’s all about finding love again after grieving a loss.
And even if they’re coming from two different places, the way they love is the same – loud and unapologetic.
People in the comments sections shared the importance of treating animals and their feelings.
“No one will ever convince me I’m just anthropomorphizing my dogs when I see their emotional states. They feel and demonstrate a wide range- love, joy, sadness, grief, and empathy.” One comment said.
“I can attest to needing to get another dog after the passing of one. When my childhood dog passed, his brother, a rescue pittie named Robo, stopped eating and was completely shut down for weeks.” Recalled another, “My mom and stepdad ended up picking up a beagle puppy they named Harley and we’re pretty certain he saved Robo’s life.”
