Aging comes with countless physical issues.
Getting old also means wrinkly skin, weaker muscles, and bones, loss of appetite, being forgetful, becoming moody, poorer eyesight, and worst of them all, acquiring any terminal illness.
Let’s not forget that we are not the only species on Earth that ages, it also happens to our beloved pets like dogs.
Dogs’ life span, according to Wikipedia, usually runs for only 10 to 13 years. VCA Animal Hospitals also says that dogs become senior as early as 7 years old for huge breed dogs and 11 years old for the small ones.
For one senior dog named Gremlin, losing her sight was like losing a part of her life as a dog.
When her sense of sight started to become weaker, everything else literally turned darker for her. From a playful family dog to suddenly becoming inactive and aloof.
Of course, her human mom and dad took her to a specialist for cataract surgery. Sadly, the end result wasn’t close to what they had expected it to be.
Soon, the senior Pit Bull became blind in one eye and the other with very poor vision.
Her human parents didn’t just give up on her but at that point, Gremlin’s optical nerves were no longer healthy enough to handle any more surgeries.
It’s definitely one of the bad things about aging, the body could only take so much physical suffering.
Days went by and things got even worse for the poor blind family dog.
Gremlin had a hard time roaming around their house. With her very poor eyesight, he started to bump into things at home like walls, couches, and other things that were usually situated along her path.
Because of her everyday predicament, she started to show signs of depression by staying quiet and with her head always bowed down. She also began staying distant from her other dog siblings, everything suddenly stopped, all the cuddles and playtime.
She was losing her sense of sight, hence, her sense of hearing and touch became stronger. She’s easily startled by every bit of sudden sound and motion. She was always quiet and distant, just sitting in one corner almost the entire day.
It was too much to watch, so Gremlin’s parents did the necessary.
They consulted a vet whos an expert when it comes to performing risky lens transplants. But even the vet didn’t recommend another eye surgery for Gremlin because of her age and the previous surgery that was done on her.
Removing eye surgery as a solution to the problem, her mom and dad came up with the idea of letting her wear human contact lenses. It was a trial and error idea but they didn’t think twice because it was all for Gremlin’s welfare.
They purchased a pair of high-powered human contact lenses and tried it on Gremlin.
With all their cards laid on the table, the day finally came for them to try the lenses on their blind dog. Meticulously and carefully, they were able to put the contact lenses on Gremlin’s eyes.
As soon as she blinked, there was an instant reaction of amazement from her. All their sacrifices paid off, finally, Gremlin was able to see again!
Her mom and dad were in awe as they watch the vibrant aura coming from their then dull-looking furry companion. It was such a beautiful moment between them.
Her owner’s love for her was really the cure because they didn’t give up on her so easily.
Lesson learned – never give up on your senior dogs.
