Great Danes are one of the biggest dog breeds in the world, they can grow up to 32 inches tall and weigh up to 175 pounds.
While they are physically very big, these dogs also have larger-than-life personalities.
These dogs are known to be affectionate and kind, as well as protective and very silly!
Even though Great Danes are so large, they are very cuddly and like to think of themselves as lap dogs, just beware of their copious amounts of drooling.
They are relaxed and laid back and are generally a go-with-the-flow breed.
Though they may not require quite as much exercise as huskies or border collies, they do still need a few good walks every single day.
It was when a man named Rob Jerry was walking his dog, Sadie, that her greatness really shone through.
It was a chilly St. Patrick’s Day morning when the pair were on their usual route around the neighborhood that something unexpected happened.
Sadie, who was a very obedient pooch and always stayed close to Rob, sat unmoving at the top of their driveway.
Rob called Sadie but she didn’t come like she normally would for him.
He tried multiple times but there was no moving her; that was when Rob heard a faint sound.
He quieted for a moment to listen closer and realized that what he first thought was grunting, was actually calls for help.
Rob followed Sadie to bottom of their neighbors driveway and it was there that he saw what had been bothering her.
Their 89-year-old neighbor, Albert Larson, lay in the middle of the drive, clothes frozen to the ground.
The man had gone to get the mail when he slipped and landed hard, breaking his hip.
He had tried to crawl back to his house but was unable to get very far when he had to stop.
Turns out, he had been laying there for at least an hour, calling for help.
Rob rushed over to the senior and, upon realizing he was seriously injured, called an ambulance.
Fortunately, a few weeks later, Albert was recovering and staying in a rehab center while his hip healed.
“She saved him,” Rob told WOOD TV 8, exuding pride at the fact that it was his dog who helped save the neighbor’s life.
“It’s a pretty nice dog.” says Albert’s 90-year-old wife.
Because Sadie was determined to help the elderly man, the couple was able to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary together.
Sadie most definitely earned her title on that chilly St Patty’s day morning, and she deserves all the treats and pats in the world.
It is almost certain that as soon as Albert was able to return home, he got a visit from his rescue pup and lavished her with praise and love.
Thank goodness Sadie was around that morning and alerted her owner that something was wrong.
Neighbors are very lucky to have her keeping an eye on them!
