From timid and scared to happy and thriving, this is the happy story of Luna, an abandoned puppy. Dina, a foster dog mom, found her sitting in a box on the side of the road. According to her, the dog was hardly in good shape.
“I have never seen a more depressed dog. She couldn’t walk, she couldn’t even stand up. She would lick out of my hand or out of a spoon.”
Despite not having a warm, cozy home and good food to eat until Dina found her, Luna’s spirits didn’t break.
In fact, the fierce little puppy kept going.
It took only a week before Luna began to walk. She was a little shaky on her feet at first but Dina notes how determined the puppy was to stand strong, walk about, and satisfy her curiosity.
Eventually, Luna started to befriend Dina’s other dogs, sniffing them out. That was also the time she began to express joy, occasionally wagging her tail.
From walking clumsily to happily running about, Luna’s true self began to show.
The happy pup came alive under Dina’s care, not letting anything get in her way.
“There was a huge emotional and personal change with that. She was just like, ‘Oh my God, I like this. I’m gonna run around I’m gonna start eating some stuff.'”
After learning to literally get back up on her feet, Luna moved on to her next project: socializing. Dina didn’t have any other puppies around but she did have a friend who owned a Great Dane puppy named Zeus.
The 120-pound Great Dane towered over Luna but the two dogs didn’t seem to care one bit about the size difference.
The important thing was they both found a friend and playmate in each other.
Amazingly enough, Zeus and Luna hit it off almost instantly.
Dina recalls,
“It was love at first sight, I think… they just formed this really weird big creature, small creature relationship… Her whole body was the size of his nose.”
As the perfect gentle giant, Zeus was a great first companion for Luna. He began to show just how well he could protect and care for Luna. Luna, on the other hand, did a complete 180. Dina took good care of her from the beginning, and Zeus’ friendship brought out a whole new side of the small puppy.
From wary and scared to fierce and brave, Luna started showing more confidence by the day and slowly learned how to socialize. She would use her paws to wave not just at Zeus but at anyone. It became such an endearing trait of hers that Dina and others would quip that the puppy is actually a cat.
Luna’s transformation is incredible.
She has no reason to be meek and cautious anymore when she has Dina and Zeus beside her all the way. Luna and Zeus’ story proves that sometimes, all you really need in life is a good friend and a whole lot of fun.
