Anybody lucky enough to still have their grandparents around knows how great they are.

They know how to make their grandkids smile, and just like any other parent, they do everything they can to make the young ones happy.

One grandpa has proven this again by doing such a cute thing for his grandkids.

He observed and saw what would make the little ones happy and did what he could to give this to them.

When Mike Parrett saw that his grandkids fell in love with a particular pup, he knew how to make them happy.

Nicole and Nathan Parrett from Fargo decided to visit their family in Texas.

During this time, a stray dog wandered onto the family’s property, making hearts melt, especially the kids.

Nicole was hesitant initially, but she gave in when she saw how much her family loved the dog.

The animal was unfortunately covered in fleas and burrs, but this did not stop them from helping the little fellow.

The children were totally charmed by the stray pup.

Nicole was wary at first and had to warn her kids about it.

“We were like, ‘Don’t touch him, we don’t know if he’s mean,’ but he kept his distance and hung around,” Nicole told WDAY ABC News. “You can pet, but be careful.”

Eventually, the little guy warmed up to them, and they could adequately bond with it.

The kids instantly fell in love with the dog, and their interaction made their visit to Texas even more special.

The dog was cleaned up and was given the attention it deserved.

Although Nicole told the kids they could not bring the dog home, the young ones still named the pup.

They named him “Country.”

“He was so pleasant to the kids, and that is what won us over, but we were still like, no matter what happens, we are not taking this dog home,” Nicole said.

Days passed, and it was finally time for the kids to say goodbye to Country.

It was an emotional separation. Clearly, the kids have learned to love the pup, and they were heartbroken to realize that they had no choice but to leave him in Texas, no matter how much they wanted to bring him home.

The children were unaware that their Grandpa Mike was observing them all along.

Obviously, his grandkids truly loved the pup, and he wanted to give them a happy holiday and make them smile.

Mike knew it would be a very long drive, but he managed to drive 1,250 miles only to make his grandchildren happy.

The man brought Country to Fargo and surprised his grandkids.

“I wanted to make them happy. I knew it, it is something you just know. And I was going to make it happen,” Mike said. He made sure to arrive before Christmas and surprise the kids before the occasion.

The kids were quite emotional when they saw their Grandpa’s gift.

They were tearful as they thanked their loving grandfather for knowing what would make them happy.

Nathan thought, “It was like magic,” and everyone was just so overjoyed because of this incredible show of love and affection.
