The long running stereotype of dogs vs. cats would have us believe that these two furry companions of ours could never be friends with one another.

We’ve long been fed the tropes of the cold and calculating cats being mortal enemies of the loyal and loveable dogs. They’re forever engaged in a rivalry of the ages, from shows like Tom and Jerry to Garfield and Otis.

It’s a theme that we’ve seen repeated through film, television, books and songs.

However in real life, this myth is well busted.

Sometimes your domestic dogs and cats are happy to cohabitate. Other times however, they’re not just happy to live together but form deep and genuine relationships.

Introducing one protective golden retriever and her feline companion, a wee kitten.

The golden retriever goes nowhere without her little friend.

Carrying the kitten in her mouth, this doggo brings the kitten with her everywhere. As both cats and dogs carry their young in their mouths by the scruffs of their necks, this is all to normal for the kitten. As happens with some breeds of cats, the kitten freezes entirely when gripped by her nape.

The kitten was a lost stray who now, in what looks like a rescue facility, has not only food and shelter, but true companionship.

Acting as Mom, the golden retriever even cleans the tiny cat.

She doesn’t quite have the grooming standards that most cat moms do, but it’s the effort that counts. Usually mother cats can be a lot more tidy in their licking of their baby’s coats. Not so much this surrogate mom! Golden retrievers are such a popular breed as pets because of their friendly and patient nature.

It seems like this lucky kitten is getting the most of both of those qualities from this caring canine!

She has all the motherly instincts the kitten needs.

When kittens are really young, they often need a little bit of help. Mother cats will lick their kitten’s…downstairs, in order to instigate them to start letting nature call. This dog mom knows just what to do and licks the kitten in preparation for the kitty litter tray.

Then when the time comes, she carries the kitten right over to use the kitty litter.

Is there anything more adorable than a kitten playing?

Dogmom watches on protectively as her surrogate kitty gets wild with a toy. One funny comment depicts the struggle rather theatrically:

“Feeding bottle: exist

Kitten: am gonna end this mans career”-ice berge

And what could warm the cockles of your soul more than the pair resting peacefully together.

I challenge you not to feel all gooey inside looking at these two getting their cuddle on. We love dogs. We love cats. But we love dogs who love cat’s even more! Other comments on this video express having their hearts melted too:

“What a way to start the day seeing this video of two precious babies 1 being pure gold literally by name and nature 2 being some little kitty who couldn’t be in better hands than this gr and their owner I hope they stay together I really love these πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ˜»πŸ˜»πŸ˜»πŸ˜»πŸ˜»πŸ˜»πŸ˜»πŸ˜»πŸ˜»πŸΎπŸΎπŸΎπŸΎπŸΎπŸΎπŸΎ”- Lynne Ward
