Dogs are man’s best friend, even when they accidentally start house fires…

That’s what this golden retriever did after her owner left a plate of cookies on the stove and she just couldn’t resist. This is actually more common than you think, just wait until you find out how often this happens.

Ashley O’Donnell and her husband had no idea how much their golden retriever, Molly, loved cookies. Until they decided to leave some out one night, and it turned into a night they will never forget.

In the video posted by Inside Edition, the whole ordeal is caught on camera for everyone to see. This will teach dog owners never to leave food on the stove!

As soon as the lights go out, Molly makes her move

You can see the pooch put her front legs on the stove as she gets a mouth full of cookies. But without hands, she doesn’t have the best control over what she’s hitting.

Somehow, she accidentally turns the oven on and you can see the fire begin. It wasn’t the cookies that caught fire, those were already in Molly’s belly. It was the spatula that the O’Donnells left on the stove that ended up ablaze. You can hear their other dog, barking to alert the owners but they’re fast asleep.

“The spatula for the cookies was nearby, she must have hit it and it went onto the eye of the stove and that’s ultimately what caught on fire,” Ashley told Inside Edition.

Smoke fills the air as the fire gets bigger, but the smoke alarm saves the day

If you’ve ever left the batteries out of your smoke alarm, this will make you think twice. Right before the fire spreads, the smoke alarm goes off and the O’Donnells awake.

They were able to run into the kitchen and put the fire out before a bad situation turned worse. The couple put out the fire, with the only damage being a cracked stove and the melted spatula. To prevent this from happening again, Ashley started taking off the knobs for the stove…How about just not leaving food out anymore?

This is more common than you think, approximately 1,000 house fires are started by pets each year

According to Animal Humane, around 500,000 pets are affected by house fires each year, with 1,000 of those being unintentionally set by the pets.

The YouTube video also shows a German Shepard named, Dalia, who also accidentally set a house fire. Only instead of a spatula burning, it was soda cans that ended up causing a Sprite explosion as well.

The big question, “did Molly enjoy the cookies?”

Ashley confirmed, “she did eat the cookie,” and we’re sure she enjoyed them. Hopefully, the rambunctious golden retriever learned her lesson, we know her owners did.
