Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the scariest looking dog of them all?

It’s not easy being a pup to a world of handlers who constantly demand things from you. Even if does make their tail wag in happiness, dogs should use a little R&R time for themselves to relax and recuperate their energy from so much constant work. That’s why it was no surprise when one adorable doggo decided it was time he gave himself some much overdue self-care: by looking at himself in the mirror.

The hilarious story of the pooch who went viral began in Johannesburg, South Africa.

A Golden Retriever is bewildered by his very sight when he decides to take a good look at himself behind the reflective glass. His owner started to wonder what was going on after she witnessed his dog stare at himself as if there was another dog in the room. She noticed a bit of a menacing snarl showing on the dog’s face and quickly decided to seize the moment with his camera.

Clearly, there was no dog in the room, but that didn’t stop this doggo from snooping around some more.

“I was sitting in my room with my dog when I noticed him staring at the mirror.” Said the Golden’s handler. “I first thought he was looking at me through the mirror, then I realized he was looking at himself and started making faces at himself which is when I took the video.”

Golden Retrievers are known for their kind and loving nature, so it took us by surprise when we saw what kind of faces this furry guy started to demonstrate.

The clip starts with the Golden looking at himself in a fierce manner; his eyebrows furrowed, mouth puckered, and nose pronounced enough to show his alertness.

Then, he started to reveal his teeth slowly until we could see his array of canines sticking out like a shark’s open jaw.

Those razor sharp knockers are not to be played with! And it looks like our friend here was not about ready to let this “other dog” dominate him and take his territory.

Suddenly in the blink of an eye, his face does a complete 180 and turns friendly.

His approachable expression reminds us why Golden Retrievers are some of the finest family pets one can have.

His smile is honestly too doggone cute to look away from!

Even his handler had no choice but to let out a wholesome laugh at the entire shenanigans.

Whether he feels threatened or at peace with his good looks, there’s no denying that the pooch has displayed an exceptional level of intelligence in recognizing himself behind the looking glass. Surprisingly, most animals that tend to see their own reflection have aggressive tendencies since it’s tough for them to come to terms with what they’re looking at.

The video clip set the internet ablaze with various comments like, “It’s so weird seeing a Golden making a mean face, the two things just don’t go together in my brain,” surfacing as a reaction to the wacky scenario.

Others even made a reference to a scene of Robert De Niro in, “Taxi Driver” when dog says to himself, “You talking to me, I don’t see anyone else around here, you talking to me?” In any case, this dog can definitely land himself as a mean guard dog as long as you put a mirror in front of him.
