Moving out from your old neighbor can be difficult.

It means leaving your friends behind and adjusting to a new environment and around new neighbors.

Brinkley, a golden retriever, already has friends who he goes on ice cream runs, park dates, and other shenanigans with. All of that changed, however, when he and his family moved.

Hannah has always known that Brinkley thrives with friends.

As a golden retriever, being friends with literally anyone and anything comes with the dog tag. But it was difficult for Brinkley because there were no dogs near their house.

He’d spend his time just looking out the window and probably imagining what life was like when he still got his best buddies around.

But it seems like someone is listening to poor Brinkley.

To Hannah’s surprise, her next-door neighbors came back with a golden retriever puppy on a leash. She didn’t and Brinkley didn’t know that their neighbors planned on getting a puppy and it was the answer to all his prayers.

But just like most good things, it comes with a catch. Cedar’s owners think that their dog is still way young to play with a giant floof like Brinkley.

Cedar was just nine weeks old, and Brinkley, who was so close to having a friend, needed to wait just a little bit longer.

To mark and track the momentous occasion, Hannah got Brinkley a calendar.

There’s a day encircled and a lot of x-marks leading up to the moment. It may not be Christmas for us, but it very much is for Brinkley.

To distract him, Hannah takes him on long walks and the dog park.

It gives him enough time to exercise and socialize with other people and get his mind off Cedar.

However, Brinkley’s eyes are on the prize. It became a routine for him to run up to the refrigerator first thing in the morning just so he could watch Hannah mark another day.

And no matter how much Hannah tried, there are just times that Brinkley was down and sad.

From the other side of the fence, they can see Cedar sticking her snout through the fence gaps. They all just knew that the dogs wanted to play.

“Honestly, I was excited to meet Cedar just as much as he was.” Hannah told The Dodo, “So it kinda became a calendar for both of us.”

Finally, their most awaited day came!

And it seems like Cedar knows it too! She was jumping and barking on her side of the fence and Brinkley is as excited too!

The moment they opened the fence door and let Cedar in, they knew they’ll hit it off right away.

It was a total rumble when the dogs played for the first time.

There was a lot of running, flipping over, wrestling, and muddy paws. Hannah didn’t mind any of it. After all, playing tug with the both of them at the same time, walking them to the beach, and hanging out in the yard will be their new “every day.”

And Brinkley is totally okay with that.
