Saying goodbye to someone you love can be hard. That’s why Walker the golden retriever had such a difficult time when his bestie Willow, also a golden retriever, had to say goodbye.
Vicki Molnar is Walker’s human and her boyfriend is Willow’s human. The golden retrievers were separated when Willow had to go back to her boyfriend’s ex’s house.
This left Walker heartbroken.
“Him and Willow, they love each other,” Molnar told Good Morning America. “They definitely have a bond.”
While Walker and Willow do see each other from time to time, they don’t get to spend as much time together as they used to.
“When she went back to the ex’s, Walker he was devastated,” Molnar said. “For a few weeks, he just moped about the house. He whined, he cried, he was very lonely but now every time she leaves for two weeks she’s devastated. She’s crushed.”
Molnar couldn’t stand to see Walker suffer, so they decided to give him a surprise to cheer him up.
Molnar surprised Walker with a brand new puppy.
“We just decided to get him another dog because he was just so lost without her and we just felt he needed that full-time friend,” Molnar said.
The first meeting between Walker and his new bestie Waylon was caught on video.
And it was definitely a picture-perfect one.
The video shows Walker already becoming excited when presented with a cardboard box.
That tail starts wagging double time when the box is opening revealing a tiny golden retriever puppy.
“What did we bring you? A baby brother?” Molnar asks Walker in the video.
The two immediately start sniffing each other excitedly.
“The moment they finally saw each other, they had an instant connection. It made me tear up,” said Molnar. “There was a lot of emotion in our house that day because Walker was so happy. He was so excited, it made us all so happy. He was so happy he was whining.”
Walker just couldn’t believe that he had a brand new friend to play with. He wasn’t even sure at that point if the friend could stay, but he was just so happy that he could barely contain himself.
The two were immediately BFFs.
“He was so gentle with him the first few weeks. Now that Waylon had doubled in size, he is a little less cautious with him,” said Molnar. “They’re inseparable we don’t find one without the other hardly ever.”
Waylon and Walker love to play and cuddle one another. When Willow comes over, they make up one giant cuddle puddle.
The three dogs all get along great, which is something Molnar says we could all take note of.
“We could learn a lot from dogs. Dogs are so accepting. They’re so genuine with their feelings and their emotions. Their love is unconditional. People could learn a lot from dogs.”
