When Winnie met her little sister for the first time, her tail kept wagging from side to side.
She could not keep in her excitement! Oh, and did we mention that Winnie is a Golden Retriever, and she is meeting her Golden Retriever sister, Scarlett? Yes, they’re both dogs, and they are the most adorable dogs!
Their mom placed Scarlett in a basket to surprise Winnie, and they just kept sniffing each other.
Winnie’s mom, Kathleen, had already noticed that Winnie was feeling a bit lonely lately. Golden Retrievers are, after all, very social animals and they need another person or dog to be social with.
Winnie came into their lives during the pandemic when Kathleen still worked from home. Kathleen and Winnie were together all the time until the lockdowns began to loosen and Winnie was left at home.
It was a hard adjustment for Winnie, and she started to get lonely.
Kathleen decided to add another dog to their family.
“I wanted her to have that same level of attention and activity she was getting when we first had her and I could tell she needed a true companion in her life and someone she could share her adventures with,” Kathleen shared.
When Scarlett arrived, it was clear they were complete opposites.
While Winnie was very independent and did things on her own, Scarlett was shy and timid. She would follow Winnie everywhere and copy everything she did. The best part is, Winnie didn’t mind.
She loved being Scarlett’s big sister.
They loved to run together, wrestle in the yard, cuddle on the sofa with each other, watch the world go by outside their window, and play in the sand and ocean. Winnie even taught Scarlett how to swim.
What an amazing big sister!
“Scarlett really looks up to her big sister and wants to always be by her side,” Kathleen said. “It’s the sweetest thing.”
Kathleen was lucky though that these two got along from the first day they met.
Not every dog is going to be as lucky. Sometimes, it takes weeks or even months before two dogs, even the same breed, can get along. And even then, they just learn to tolerate and live with each other.
Winnie and Scarlett’s story is different.
They just couldn’t get enough of each other. Even when Scarlett had grown up to be almost as big as Winnie, she still continued to copy everything her big sister did.
Winnie was really happy to share all the life lessons she knows with Scarlett.
There are so many benefits to having two Golden Retrievers in your life as well.
They’ll encourage each other to exercise. Golden Retrievers need exercise and activity to thrive. When you have at least two Golden Retrievers, they’ll motivate each other to exercise when they plan together.
And having two dogs can help your dog with the pack instinct.
Dogs are used to having a pack and living with other dogs can give them that sense of security.
