For some inexplicable reason, dogs seem to love playing with our clothes. While our canine companions can—and will—use anything as a toy, there isn’t an article of clothing they won’t chew, drool on, tug, and tear to their heart’s content.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a pair of socks, your favorite shirt, or even a hoodie.
If they can get their paws—or teeth—on it, they just won’t let go, as one victim found out too late.
In a quiet Rhode Island suburb, Makayla Rogers took her golden retriever, Grissom, out for playtime with a frisbee in hand. However, it wasn’t the frisbee the dog wanted, but the fur-lined hood of Roger’s jacket.
Grissom, believing the hood to be a new toy, bit down on and tugged it like one.
Footage of Roger and Grissom’s hilarious tug-of-war was captured by a doorbell camera overlooking her backyard deck. “Oh, my God!” Rogers exclaimed, “no one prepares you for what you do when this happens.”
Despite the owner’s harmless distress, Grissom believed they were just playing a game.
He kept tugging the hood with his teeth, dragging Rogers across the deck. “This is not how I want to go out, Grissom!” Rogers pleaded. But Grissom ignored her and kept playing.
Despite her best efforts, Rogers admitted defeat and collapsed onto the wooden flooring. Then, to her amusement, Grissom did the same, plopping down for a quick break, the hood still in his teeth.
Rogers then burst into hysterics, howling with laughter at the absurdity of the situation.
As soon as Grissom was back on her feet, the retriever pulled on the hoodie with newfound strength, dragging a lying Rogers across the wooden floor as she kept shrieking with laughter. “He’s trying to do it, again!” she cried.
The video ends with Rogers in defeat, curled up on the floor and her hood still in the clutches of Grissom’s teeth.
The manufacturers of the doorbell camera, Ring, posted the fifty-eight-second video on their YouTube channel, which garnered over a million views. It turns out doorbell cameras don’t just help keep porch pirates at bay, they can also capture hilarious fails that would’ve never been seen.
Dogs have a level of playfulness that can be matched by few creatures.
For those precious pooches, anytime is playtime. Just be careful about what you wear when you’re around them because odds are they’ll want it for themselves.
