You can train a dog to do all sorts of hilariously adorable things, as long as food is involved.
One man, Jon Hubble, should know this, as he’s trained his Golden Retriever, Zack, to collect an ice cream treat when the ice cream man comes to visit.
Zack’s full-time job is to act as security for Jon’s recruitment company – but he really is too sweet-looking to be taken seriously.
With a thick, golden fur coat and a wagging tail that never seems to stop, Zack looks to have the typical temperament of his breed – docile, friendly, and big foodies!
Being his owner’s favorite family member (naturally), Zack appears in a lot of video’s on Jon’s personal YouTube channel.
Alongside videos of Zack celebrating his birthday and making friends, there’s also the viral “ice cream man” video.
Despite the footage being grainy – typical of the camera quality of 5 years ago – the video has racked up an impressive 6 million views, and it’s easy to see why.
Zack is the star of the show in the clip, and people can’t get enough of his adorable ice cream routine.
The video starts with Jon filming through his window, showing the arrival of the ice cream man.
Zack is waiting at the window, too – he’s obviously used to the van pulling up in the drive at a certain time of the day.
As the van comes to a stop, Jon holds out a Tupperware tub and says to Zack,
“Zacky, there’s your money – go on.”
Obedient dog as he is, Zack takes the box in his mouth and scampers outside, tail wagging so fast it’s almost a blur.
He comes to a stop outside the ice cream van, then jumps up, placing his front paws on the counter. The ice cream man must be used to this exchange, but he must have had a shock the first time he went to serve this furry customer!
The ice cream man takes the Tupperware tub from Zack’s mouth and deals with his order, while Zack grins and wags his tail.
The Golden Retriever can barely contain his excitement as he watches his ice cream being made.
He licks his lips, becoming more frantic as the ice cream man puts his ice cream into his money tub and closes the lid.
The ice cream man hands the tub back to Zack, who dutifully holds it in his mouth, and says,
“That’s what you call service.”
And with that, Zack heads off with his Tupperware tub, ready to eat his ice cream.
Showing the video’s age, the ice cream man pokes his head out of his window, obligingly smiles for the camera, then says,
“You’ll have to Bluetooth me that.”
It’s a simple video, but it’s obvious why it captured so many people’s hearts. The video must be even more special for Jon, Zack’s owner, to look back on, after he shared some heartbreaking news in the comments:
“Hi all, Zacks dad here – unfortunately, after a short illness we had to let Zack run free to Rainbow Bridge yesterday morning aged 12yrs 8 months and 14 days. He was our fur kid and a superb character loved by all. Thank you for your support and comments. Badly missed already, RIP Zack – go run like the wind!”
If you need a pick-me-up today, this video will do it. It’s one of the most British things to exist on the internet, and it involves a dog. What’s not to love?
