You probably had a favorite blanket when you were a kid.
Something warm and cozy that you couldn’t do without. If you left it at home before going to your grandparents house, you cried. On the days your parents had to put it in the wash, you were devastated.
You’re not alone! I know I certainly had mine (stylish with some classy leopard print).
And we all remember dear old Linus from Charlie Brown – he’s the ultimate blanket fan.
But this adorable pup is giving him a run for his money. And I’m sorry Linus, but Rooney the Golden Retriever may also be cuter.
His owner shared this adorable video of him on his way to sleep. But before he could get into bed, he had to pull in his blue-grey blanket from another room.
Carrying it gently between his teeth he dragged it towards his bed. Somehow looking a little guilty, he stopped to look up at his mom with big beautiful puppy dog eyes.
Maybe he’s embarrassed that he’s all grown up and still needs his blankie. Maybe he’s just shy in front of the camera.
Usually dogs are obsessed with a specific toy you got them, or can’t stop carrying your shoes all over the house. But it’s not entirely out of the ordinary for a dog to have a favorite blanket.
Domestic dogs still have their ancestral instincts to sleep in a den, or at least dig themselves a cozy little hole in the dirt, sand or even snow to sleep and keep warm.
So it’s totally normal for a pet pup to still seek that kind of comfort even when they’re living a pampered life in your air conditioned home.
The team at Wag Walking explained:
If your dog is starting to burrow under his blanket, he’s probably doing it to feel safe and comfortable in his makeshift den. Dog breeds that are hunters or cold weather dogs are known for burrowing, but any breed can enjoy burrowing under a blanket.
If you think about how comfortable you feel underneath your comforter in the winter, or have ever tried a weighted blanket, it all makes sense.
But maybe your beloved doggo has taken a liking to a blanket that was very expensive – like that cashmere throw you knew was over priced but was just sooo soft you couldn’t help yourself. Or a blanket that has some sentimental value, and you’ll probably want it back.
But fortunately, it’s pretty simple to find an alternative (to give the dog… not yourself).
Find an old, tattered or cheaper blanket you’re comfortable parting with. Keep offering that whenever they go for the one you’re trying to save from dog slobber.
A different toy may also work as a replacement.
But Rooney already had the perfect blanket, and his mom’s heart melted when she saw him carrying it around the house so dutifully.
Our adorable golden boy got into his bed, which looks very chic and modern… and a little bit like a trampoline.
He then spun himself around, got comfortable, and cozied up against his blanket. Finally ready for bed. How could anyone possibly take this boy away from his blankie? I know I couldn’t!
Watch the adorable video below to see Rooney bring his favorite blanket to bed.
