Dogs are constantly surprising us. Yes, their lives are mostly made up of sleeping, eating, and playing with toys… But they are so much more than that.
Yes, they dedicate most of their lives to leisure and achieving the highest level of comfort. They love resting and they love hanging out with loved ones.
But sometimes, dogs surprise us and we soon find out… they can actually be just like us. Sometimes they end up doing way more than just the typical dog activities because they are super smart.
A very normal situation for a very normal dog.
This 2-year-old golden retriever turned out to be so smart, he earned himself a spot on a college baseball team.
The dog is named Remington and he has been hitting the ball out of the park (pun intended)!
As one of the newest members of the UNC Chapel Hill baseball team, Remington continues to prove he is just as valuable as any of the human players and, to our surprise, he does way more than just running back and forth and fetching baseballs.
Remington is actually a service dog who knows more than a hundred commands. He also acts as a way to prove emotional support to all of his teammates.
He can open and close a refrigerator.
Most importantly though, Remington can fist bump. If that’s not the most important trait in a pup, we’re not really sure what is.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever had a dog or any sort of assistance dog helping out with any team I’ve been a part of,” one of the baseball players told Inside Edition.
“It’s like a bond I have with any of my teammates, really,” he added.
Everyone who knows Remington vouches for the calming effect he has on everyone he meets.
He almost acts as an emotional rock for the team, when he’s not playing a good came, that is.
“The boys have an interest in him. They have a bad day, they’re not doing great in class one day, they have an exam… They’ll come down and just kind of play with him. He has a calming influence,” one person said.
The dog is given a lot of big responsibilities around the field.
Taking balls to the empire before the game starts and holding his hat or glove during the National Anthem are just a few of the many tasks he takes on every day.
“Sometimes it’s not fun to go to therapy but if he’s there, they’re petting him or they will throw a ball for him. Things like that. Pretty soon, they’re all laughing,” a source continued to tell IE.
In short, Remington is a star dog who was basically made for game day! We love not only his work ethic and his loyalty but also the large amount of unconditional love he offers to the team every day.
We’re pretty sure that anything is possible if you have a loving dog nearby.
Imagine not doing so hot in a game but then having this little pup to come back to when it’s all said and done?! Doesn’t seem like a pretty bad way to play a game.
