In May 2017, a tiny, three-week-old kitten was abandoned at a veterinarian’s office. The little white kitten weighed less than a pound and was deaf.
The kitten was also a polydactyl, which meant he had an extra pair of toes that looked like thumbs.
A man who worked at the hospital fell in love with the tiny kitten, and he and his wife, Kim Downie, decided to adopt him. They named the little kitten Skywalker.
The Downies already had two other pets, a black cat named Vader and a Golden Retriever named Mojito. Vader initially avoided Skywalker, but the opposite was true of Mojito. As soon as Skywalker walked into the house, Mojito trotted up to him and started affectionately licking him. In response, Skywalker happily curled up next to Mojito.
From that moment on, Mojito and Skywalker were inseparable.
Mojito has always loved being with cats. Since they were young, she and Vader have loved cuddling together. Now, Mojito shows that same affection towards Skywalker. Mojito treats little Skywalker like he’s one of her puppies. She licks him constantly, and she always has one of her big paws curled around him protectively. Mojito is a therapy dog, and so she knows how to look after animals and people who need a little help.
“I do think sometimes he thinks she’s his mommy. Mojito is very loving. She’s a therapy dog and absolutely loves doing her visits. Skywalker is just super goofy,” Kim Downie told Love Meow.
Mojito has also introduced Skywalker to some of her favorite pastimes, like watching birds fly from the window.
Now, Skywalker has grown into a happy and healthy young cat. His thumbs also grew with him, and it now looks like he’s always giving a big thumbs up!
Even though Skywalker is a bit older now, he still loves cuddling with Mojito more than anything else in the world. The two still spend most of their time together, chasing each other around the house or taking naps together in the sun.
Downie shares photos and videos of Skywalker, Mojito, and Vader’s adventures on their Instagram page. She often posts cute videos of the animals playing and hanging out together.

Mojito has done an amazing job looking after Skywalker as he grows up into an adult cat. These two sweet animals are going to remain best friends for life!
