Almost everyone loves dogs. Even the ones who have severe allergies brave it just to cuddle adorable dogs.

Some people are meant to just play with other people’s dogs. And some people are meant to have dogs permanently in their lives.

Some people rely on emotions and connections to find their next canine companion. And some people have specific images of what they want in their family dogs.

And then some people want to be surprised. They simply want a dog, no matter what breed or what they look like.

And that’s what happened with the Castro family.

They were looking forward to welcoming a Golden Retriever puppy into their home. But what they didn’t expect was that he would look a little bit different from the others.

Meet Lorenzo “Enzo” deMedici Splotch Viola.

Enzo was born on December 12, 2016. His family describes him as an “English Cream with a lil Freckle… [a] pro napper, sock thiever, long-walk taker, kiss giver, [and] fuzzy snuggler.”

And there’s one feature that sets Enzo apart from other dogs.

He has a black mark on the left side of his face from under his left eye to his mouth.

“Golden retrievers are born with a base black coat, with a ‘modifier gene’ that turns them golden. Almost every dog has this modifier. Enzo has a little stumble in his DNA that erased it on that one part of his face,” Ella Castro, one of his sisters, explained.

According to his dad, Eli Castro, Enzo is the only one in his litter with the black mark.

“It’s called a cellular somatic mutation — totally harmless, just a little genetic blip that flips from light to dark fur. We’ve met other golden puppers online with bits of black fur — some on their muzzle like Enzo but also ears and feet,” he told Insider.

But that’s the only thing that’s different about him.

He is super friendly and super playful. And he gets along with everyone, including dogs.

“He absolutely loves it when anyone throws a tennis ball. He’s great at the catch part and sometimes a little slow on the return. He loves snuggles,” Eli shared.

And just like any proud family, they started an Instagram page for the most adorable member of their family. They started it to show Enzo to their family and friends.

They had no idea other people would visit Enzo’s page and, before they knew it, Enzo’s page had grown to 199,000 followers!

“It’s been amazing to see it grow. We especially love it when kids with birthmarks find Enzo and see how beautiful and loved he is, and get a little boost of confidence from that,” Eli told Insider.

And because he’s a Golden Retriever, he needs to release his energy through a lot of activities. It’s a good thing their house has a big backyard and he’s been spoilt with a lot of toys.

Enzo requires at least two walks a day and a lot of playtime.

“We spend a lot of time playing fetch with him in the back yard or playing with one of his toys inside,” Clarissa, his sister, said. “There’s so much to enjoy spending time with him, one of my favorite things is that he often falls asleep while tugging on a toy, he’ll just slowly lay down and rest with the toy in his mouth.”

Isn’t Enzo just adorable?
