Golden retrievers are a breed that’s known for their intelligence, loyalty, and patience. But sometimes, a dog can do something a bit out-of-character for their breed.
That’s just what happens with Dempsey the golden retriever when Dad leaves the house for a bit.
Dempsey is an adorable golden retriever, whom it seems has been having a little too much fun when Dad’s not watching. Along with their loyalty and friendliness, they too are known for their intelligence.
This means that Dempsey here is well aware that he’s done something very wrong, and he is certainly sheepish about it.
The cat however… not so much. After asking a very shy Dempsy what she did, the cameraman whips around to the cat who has just walked past him. He begs the same question of the cat- “What did you do?!” The difference between the cat and the dog, however, is expected and clichéd.
Anybody who’s ever owned both a cat and a dog could probably guess the difference in their reactions. You guessed it; the cat was completely unfazed.
Turning around further, he reveals the cat’s crime.
A little toy mouse that looks like it’s gotten a little too much “love.” And the funniest part, the cat doesn’t feel a bit of remorse.
Beckoning the dog to the scene of the crime, our man gets Dempsey on his feet.
By which I mean, gets him to inch his way step by step out of the kitchen. He’s so ashamed that he dares not raise his head to meet his owner’s eyes. He keeps them locked to the ground in front of him as he takes the meekest steps you’ll ever see.
A few comments reveal that viewers found the distinction between dogs and cats in this video hilarious.

Finally, the scene of the crime is revealed. The foam underneath Dempsey’s mattress had been obliterated by his fun-loving jaws. Judging by the state of his other toys, it seems as if he loves to have a good chew, it just seems like he doesn’t know to stop at the furniture.
He’s clearly aware that he has created a big mess and seems to understand clearly that he has done something wrong.
“If I don’t open my eyes, he can’t see me.”
The thing that makes this video both cute and hilarious is how the entire time, Dempsey seems to think that so long as he keeps his eyes closed, he can remain hidden.

But don’t worry — there’s a happy ending!
Dempsey flops onto his back, asking for a belly rub. His owner happily gives him one, telling him all is forgiven. After all, who wouldn’t forgive a face that cute and guilty?
