If you think about it, hedgehogs are actually pretty fascinating creatures. Although they like to make a habit of visiting people’s back gardens, they’re not often sighted as they’re mostly nocturnal.
So could we blame a pair of gibbons or being surprised when they saw a hedgehog for what’s likely the first ever time, in the middle of the day?
The two gibbons live at Wildlife Park in the Lake District, United Kingdom, and the moment they spotted the hedgehog was caught by tomelliott9. Their reaction was so funny that Tom decided to share his video onto YouTube, where it built up an impressive 9.4 million views.
The video begins with the white gibbon staring at the hedgehog in what appears to be a silent standoff. It’s as if he is waiting for the hedgehog to make his move, but, unaware that anyone is even watching him, the hedgehog continues to walk through the grass.
This casual bravery seems to anger the gibbon even more, and he tries to intimidate the prickly creature by quickly running up towards the fence.
The problem is, that the gibbon is on one side of the fence, and the hedgehog is on the other. So although the gibbon can try his best to intimidate the little guy, he can’t actually reach it for himself.
It’s probably for the best that there is a fence in between the pair, as the hedgehog seems to be in his own little world, completely oblivious to the display of aggression that’s happening right on the other side of the fence.
Eventually, the white gibbon admits defeat, and he climbs up into a tree in a rage.
At this point, the black gibbon seems to have just spotted the hedgehog, and he then begins to go through the exact same motions as the white one did.
None of the poor gibbons can seem to understand why the hedgehog is not running away from them in fear, and it’s safe to say that their pride is feeling a little damaged.
The white gibbon eventually jumps back down from the tree, but even with two gibbons against one hedgehog, the little guy still fails to even show any interest in the gibbons- much to their frustration.
Their reactions are both so funny that many people took to the YouTube comments to share their love for the video:
“Right when I think he looks kinda human he takes off, easily scales a vertical pole, then jumps into a tree!” one person wrote
Another commenter said:
“These things honestly look like alien creatures. The way they stand up and almost look like hairy small humans.”
“Geez! those things can move quick. Amazing acrobatic abilities. Sign them up for the Olympic team.”
“Obviously curious about it! Sometimes in nature a chance meeting between species can be very entertaining. This was one of them.”
“Half of this video: * sitting angrily waiting for its next move * The other half: WTF IS THAT BRO DO YOU NOT SEE THIS THIS IS A SERIOUS THREAT STOP FILMING ALLEN AND GET THE FRIGGEN GUN!”
