German Shepherds are great at herding or grouping farm livestock, hence the name. They are the best dogs to protect and keep your animals away from danger. At home, they could also be efficient guard dogs because they are alert, quick on their feet, and brave dogs. Most importantly, they are sweet and friendly dogs that could take care of your family and your home.
Instead of cattle, this herding dog loves watching over baby chicks.
A German shepherd named Thorin had the most adorable job in the world – taking care of baby chicks. Thorin is a gentle dog who found fondness with the tiny birds. He happily watched over them as they took their tiny steps on the carpet.
As his fur-mom took the baby chicks out of the incubator, Thorin tailed her, examining what she was going to do with the chicks. Thorin’s owner transferred the chicks into a bucket and carried them to another room afterward. Thorin then excitedly followed his mom along the way.
As the chicks were placed on the carpet, Thorin was ready to interact with them.
One by one, the owner removed the chicks and placed them on the carpet. The dog put his nose near the chicks and inspected them as they descended from his owner’s hands. After the quick sniffs, Thorin then searched for a place on the carpet, and he carefully laid down without stepping on any one of the chicks.
The chicks actively ran around the carpet, unafraid of the big dog’s presence. Thorin made sure that they would not separate from each other by keeping them in place with his nose nudges. The baby chicks were never bothered with Thorin’s sniffs and continued roaming around the unfamiliar place.
The chicks might have recognized Thorin as their mother.
The energetic chicks eventually got tired of exploring their surroundings, and they gathered around Thorin’s paws to rest. It was as if the chicks already decided that the big dog was their mother. As they tried to bundle up around his paws for warmth, Thorin welcomed them without hesitation. If this is not one of the sweetest things on earth, then we don’t know what is!
The wholesome clip instantly captured the heart of the people on the internet.
It was featured a couple of times by the YouTube channel Rumble Viral. The first video racked up 860,000 views while the other received 86,000 views on YouTube. At first glance, you would certainly be afraid that the dog might chomp them, however, if you watch the video until the end, the gentle dog remains calm and protective to the defenseless chicks.
Nature’s unlikely friendships.
It may be hard to believe that a dog and baby chicks could be friends. However, just as what you’ve witnessed with Thorin and his baby chicks, unlikely friendships like theirs happen all the time.
Animals have their way of determining who they could be friends with, and surprisingly, there are rare occasions where they even dismiss the fact that they are both prey and predator. However, the owner should still take extra precautions in cases like these.
