Well, it’s never fun when you don’t get your way, especially if you’ve been pampered all your life. Some people take rejections a little harder than others.
Apparently, the same’s true for dogs…
Meet Rocko, a beautiful German Shepherd used to getting what he wants. He enjoys the finer things in life – long walks on the beach, gourmet dog food, and a soft bedspread with tasteful linens.
Recently Rocko’s been met with a little bit of resistance. He usually gets everything he wants. But not this time.
His human companion explains in a YouTube video description,
I didn’t mind if Rocko slept at the foot of my bed. In the middle of the night he would move whilst I slept. In the morning…there he was…sound asleep next to my head with his butt right in my face. After he did that one too many times I had to tell him that I would no longer tolerate any more of his tomfoolery. And he gave me a piece of his mind. My dear friend Rocko…I miss ya, bud.
Rocko attempts to hop onto his friend’s bed yet again, this time met with opposition.
“Rocko, don’t come up on the bed. You have to hang out on the floor.”
His puppy eyes instantly turn to dismay. Rocko clearly understands his human companion – if not the exact words, then definitely the tone of his voice.
In response, Rocko turns around and walks to the corner of the bed. His human companion stops him on the way.
“No. No! If you wanna be in here you can’t jump on the bed. You have to lay on the floor.”
Rocko pulls out the puppy eyes again.
Despite the resistance, Rocko tries his luck anyway, planting a single paw on the bed.
His human friend’s not having it at all.
“No. Hey no! No.”
He ushers Rocko off the bed, proceeding to give him a rather defiant power point a la Michael Scott.
He’s not joking around. This is some serious business.
“No, no. No jumping on the bed. No! You have to lay on the floor.”
Rocko lets out a few barks in defiance.
“Too bad. No.”
German Shepherds are one of the most majestic, popular dog breeds in the world, noted for their large frame, perky ears, courageousness, and intelligence. Most of the time, they’re gentle sweethearts.
I mean who wouldn’t love this?
Like humans, any individual dog can lose its cool at times. Rocko’s very used to getting his way.
In another act of defiance, Rocko flashes his teeth, trying anything to sway his human counterpart.
I’m only a little frightened.
Kinda scary right? Especially coming from a big German Shepherd. But Rocko means no harm. It’s all posturing. His tail wags the entire time.
He’s not fooling anybody, especially his human friend.
“Don’t you bark at me!”
Within a matter of moments, Rocko’s back to his affable self.
Rocko emits a series of light barks. But the protector of the bed’s had enough for the time being, calmly stating,
“No. No… Lay down.”
Without batting an eye, Rocko stops barking and immediately heads out of the room without looking back. He’s an obedient dog, that’s for sure.
Rocko’s finally accepted the reality of the situation.
It was a good attempt, Rocko.
As The Rolling Stones so famously stated in 1968, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” The best you can do is move on and look at the bright side.
Better luck next time, Rocko.
