Dogs can be some of the FUNNIEST animals around. They have so much personality and character that it’s almost impossible to view them as “just animals” in our minds. In fact, we often few them as our little kids instead of just the family pet!
One family was able to record an example of their dog acting like a stubborn toddler!
Toddlers and dogs have WAY more in common than you might first expect.
“We all want insight into how our furry companions think, and we want to understand the silly, quirky and apparently irrational behaviors [that] Lassie or Rover demonstrate,” Coren said in an interview. “Their stunning flashes of brilliance and creativity are reminders that they may not be Einsteins but are sure closer to humans than we thought.” – APA
The research is actually surprising – dogs are AS SMART as our toddlers!
The research shows that dogs are probably as smart as 2-year-old kids.
“According to several behavioral measures, Coren says dogs’ mental abilities are close to a human child age 2 to 2.5 years.”
Knowing that, it makes sense that they sometimes act a little childish – they ARE childish! It’s easy to see when you spend enough time with dogs. You can usually catch them in their antics.
One German Shepherd was recently caught on camera doing something that all toddler-parents have experience with.
Bedtime is always a hassle. No matter how hard you try, toddlers will usually refuse to easily go to bed. This trend lasts until the teenage years when it totally flips and you can’t seem to keep your teen OUT of bed, especially in the mornings.
In the video, we see the pup laying down on the floor, clearly not happy with what his owner is asking him to do.
Adrian, the human in the video, decides that he needs to take matters into his own hands. It’s bedtime and the dog won’t go to its bed! Instead of asking nicely, Adrian just places his hands on the pups back and starts sliding him across the floor!
At this point, most dogs would cave and submit – not this one!
Acting like he’s totally dead, the pup allows himself to be slid across the floor like an extra-furry Swiffer cleaning up from that night’s dinner. From the hallway to the bed, Adrian slides him like a sack of potatos!
When they finally reach the bed, the pup moves to his last resort.
“You can’t force me into that bed!” – The dog (probably)
Adrian has to physically reach down and lift up the dog. With growls and childish anger, Basil does his best to reject the reality that it is, in fact, bedtime.
Finally, Adrian is able to get Basil on the bed.
Like a child who has been beaten but is still angry, Basil lays there with an open mouth, trying to act as uncomfortable as possible. He’s probably thinking:
“Maybe if I look uncomfortable they won’t force me to stay here!”
