Who loves toys?

This adorable video shows Mila, a 1-year-old German Shepherd puppy, getting extremely excited when she sees the toy bin while out for some much-needed retail therapy with her owners.

At first, Mila just stares longingly at all the toys in the bin, as if she were a child in a candy store.

Puppies love toys!

Puppy toys generally come in 4 different types.

  1. Chew toys: These toys help teething puppies alleviate the pains that come along as their new teeth emerge.
  2. Active toys: These toys help puppies to receive the exercise they need(such as balls for playing fetch). These toys are also usually more sturdy and good for playing tug-of-war.
  3. Distraction toys: These toys are usually busy or learning toys that a puppy owner fills with treats that the pup needs to try to find and extract.
  4. Comfort toys: These are generally soft toys that the puppy can carry around and cuddle with.

Choosing favorites.

Much like children, puppies also often choose a favorite toy or two. A puppy’s favorite toy will probably change many times throughout his/her life. Most young puppies will prefer toys to chew on since they are consumed with teething.

After the teething stage, most puppies will love toys that encourage activity. These are often puzzle-type toys that also help with a puppy’s cognitive development.

Older puppies and young dogs love playing fetch and tug-of-war and will gravitate towards these types of toys. Senior dogs generally enjoy soft toys that bring them comfort. Dogs of almost every age enjoy having a stuffed animal-type toy to cuddle with as they sleep.

Puppy toy box.

Puppies, like many children, enjoy finding “new” toys. Keeping a puppy toy box, not only helps to organize the puppy clutter but also provides a game-like experience for pups. Like Mila when she saw the HUGE puppy toy box, puppies enjoy diving into their own toy boxes.

The excitement that comes from unburying a new or forgotten toy will be evident as your puppy prances around the room with the toy in its mouth, holding its head high, and with its tail wagging a mile a minute.

Having a puppy toy box is also a convenient way to rotate a puppy’s toys. Toy rotation is important because it gives the dog owner a chance to remove toys that could pose choking hazards, and provided variety and excitement for the puppy.
