Pets are like children- when you decide to bring one into your life, it instantly becomes a lifelong commitment. Your pet relies on you like no one else does, and it’s your job to feed them, keep them exercised, and give them lots of love and attention.
Owning a pet is a huge responsibility, and despite it not being a job that everybody is good at, unfortunately, there are still a small portion of pet owners out there who aren’t fit for the job.
The next story is a perfect example of this. Somebody had decided that being a dog owner was a little too much like hard work, and they had taken their German Shepherd, driven out to the middle of nowhere, and ditched the poor boy on the side of the road, alongside his crate. Luckily, the beautiful dog was rescued- and in a dramatic plot twist, he was found to have a collar on and be microchipped. Despite all that, it still remains a mystery how he ended up on the side of a country road.
A local man named Richard Jordan first discovered the abandoned pup when he was driving through a Louisiana road. The first thing that caught his attention had been the kennel, and it wasn’t until he stopped and climbed out of his car that he spotted the German Shepherd cowering in the back of his crate.
The poor thing must have been so scared, and as he had no idea where he was, the dog had simply waited helplessly in his kennel in the hopes that someone would rescue him.
Approaching a stray dog is a task that should be taken seriously, especially if you know nothing about their past. Scared and mistreated dogs can often become aggressive, so as Richard moved towards the crate, he made sure that he took things slowly. Apparently, the pup appeared to be “skittish” and refused to climb out of his crate. But Richard wasn’t about to give up that easy.
After calling the local animal services, Richard worked to gain the dog’s trust, and before long he was able to get up close. When he did, he discovered something surprising. Not only was the pup a “beautiful, top notch dog,” but he also had a personalized collar, revealing his name was “Borel.” Richard began to question who would abandon such a seemingly well-cared-for pooch.
Richard took to a local Facebook group, where he shared some pictures of Borel in the hopes that he would find some answers. He speculated that the dog had accidentally fallen off the back of a truck, and questioned if he was a victim of ‘fad’ breeding, where people buy a particular breed of dog because they like the idea of them, only to become overwhelmed when they actually own one.
“It was well known these dogs are too much for the average person,” Richard wrote. “Well, this scared dog in the woods today … fell victim to this. This is the end result of fad buying.”
When animal services arrived, they made another discovery. Borel was actually microchipped, and he had apparently come from a Dallas area breeder. It will always be a mystery as to how the pup had ended up on the side of the road, but luckily, Borel’s story has a happy ending, as there is already a long list of people waiting to adopt him. Let’s hope he finds his furever home sometime soon!
