While we’re stuck inside during quarantine, people have been getting very creative with how to spend their free time. For many, it’s uploading TikTok videos. And if you happen to be a dog or a pet owner? The content possibilities are endless.
One dog owner, an Oklahoma woman named Lindsey Shelton, recently uploaded a TikTok video featuring her pup and it instantly went viral for its hilarity.
Clipping your dogs’ nails can be one heck of an experience. For most pups, it’s not exactly their most favorite activity in the world. However, Lindsey seemed to have found a simple and extremely funny solution to the nail-clipping fiasco.
Basically, the 27-year-old used plastic wrap, peanut butter, and a bit of ingenuity to create this hysterical viral clip below.
The video has basically been laid out as a ‘step-by-step guide’ to trimming your dog’s toenails at home.
First, she instructs to break out the plastic wrap and proceed to create a sort of “plastic wrap helmet” of sorts. Lindsey likes to use a spoon to assist her with achieving the perfect Saran wrap headpiece. Then, it’s time to grab the peanut butter (just make sure it does not contain xylitol, as it is toxic to dogs).
“This peanut butter does not have Xylitol, before you all freak out,” Lindsey assures her viewers in the TikTok video that has been viewed over a million times.
Ahna Burtlag, the associate director at Pet Poison Clinic, says “xylitol is quickly absorbed into a dog’s bloodstream when consumed. That results in the rapid release of insulin and hypoglycemia, which occurs after 10-60 minutes of eating the xylitol.”
But enough of the scary stuff! Back to the fun!
Now, take that spoon from earlier and use it to spread a generous amount of peanut butter all over the front of your forehead. Lindsey hilariously shows all of her viewers how to do so. Her husband is looking on in total confusion as if she’s a crazy person, or a “dork” as he says, but that doesn’t deter her from continuing to give the internet what it wants.
Call her a dork if you want, she’s certain that this video is going to prove to the internet that she’s, in fact, a genius. And as it turns out, we’d have to agree with her!
Her pup stays totally preoccupied with the peanut butter as she trims their nails without any issue whatsoever!
Bored Panda was lucky enough to chat with Lindsey after her video went viral. She is an ICU nurse and model who has been rescuing and fostering dogs for over six years.
“I truly believe that if we could enforce spay and neuter laws that it would save thousands of animal lives every year,” she told them.
As for the peanut butter idea? Like many great ideas these days, it came from quarantine boredom.
“Truly, I was super bored and putting it on the floor didn’t work.” That’s when the eureka moment happened. “I wanted it on my head, but didn’t want it in my hair,” she said. And, of course, “the dog loved it because he is a foodie like his mom!”
Well, we couldn’t be happier that Lindsey shared this cute moment and witty idea with all of us. She wants to encourage everyone to foster animals and help volunteer at your local shelters.
