Gardener has a unique way of planting things without using a shovel
Is your dog not helpful in the garden? Maybe you can train them to be more like Georgia!

The coronavirus quarantine has encouraged many of us to try new hobbies (or put extra effort into the ones we already have).

And it turns out gardening – even in the tiniest of spaces – is something people around the world have come to not only to relieve boredom and keep their hands busy but to get some fresh air as well.

Of course, gardening is still manual labor and those of us with larger yards don’t always have the stamina for all that bending and digging. That’s why a recent Reddit post has been so popular – it introduced us to a great way to outsource the shoveling!

You know, to our dogs.

Genius!

A Redditor who goes by the handle “Georgeyk17” posted the video a little over two weeks ago, and it’s been upvoted over 100,000 times by dog-lovers and gardeners alike.

That’s probably because this sweet girl, whose name is Georgia, is such a disciplined helper!

Georgia is past her puppy years and has clearly been trained only to dig when prompted. So she sits by, reading to receive the signal while her owner gets his plant ready.

Then, once he points at the ground, she’s off!

It’s not the tidiest way to garden, but it does save him from having to dig his own hole. And Georgia is very obedient when she’s told to stop digging so he can plop his plant in the ground.

She’s also a very good source of emotional support as he patiently replaces the dirt.

Commenters were impressed and suggested that with just a few more dogs, this man can have a pool dug in his yard in no time! Others offered to pay the pup to come over and help in their yards.

“She would work for a ball thrown to her,” replied her owner.

And if you think Georgia is a cute gardener, you should know she’s just as cute inside the house as well.

Now if you’re really lucky, your dog might also have enough energy to help you fill in your holes when planting in your garden.

Just take a look at this wacky pup!

Or how about Crusoe, the Dachshund? It looks like he’s learned to help in the garden the same way as Georgia!

Here he is standing by patiently (since he only digs when told to):

It’s yet another video well worth watching.

Most videos about dogs in gardens are instructions on how to keep them from digging – and for good reason.

A dog can destroy a beautiful garden in just a few minutes out of the sheer instinct to dig.

But they can also be trained to help (or at least to dig only on command and, more importantly, stop on command) if you put in the time and effort.

Isn’t it great to see someone who has spent the time training their dog to take part in their favorite hobbies with them? It sure takes a lot of patience, but the result is having your best furry friend by your side while you’re tending your garden.
