Friday is Lily the Labrador’s favorite day. That’s because she gets to see her buddy on Fridays.
She waits in her yard every week for him to arrive.
And when David the garbage man finally does arrive, she knows she’ll get some treats and a lot of pets.
“They’re best friends,” one of Lily’s owners, Ishaan Chatterjee, told The Dodo.
Lily and David became friends while Lily was hanging out in her front yard.
She loves sitting out on the Bedford, New Hampshire property’s green grass while people watching and chasing after squirrels.
Chatterjee said that Lily would rapidly wag her tail at people who passed by, hoping someone would stop to greet her.
But that never happened until she met David. Being the clever doggo that she is, Lily recognized that her family would bring out the trash cans on Thursday night.

The next day a man would come to take them. Lily knew she had to try and make friends with that man.
Lily is friendly with everyone.
She always shows all people love. Even those who aren’t “dog people.” But it was different with David.
Chatterjee said that their bond was a lot deeper with David than with other humans she’d meet.
“Their relationship has blossomed into the sweetest thing,” Chatterjee said. “We actually give [our garbage man] holiday gifts every year to show our appreciation for how he treats Lily.”
You could see how happy she gets when he shows up on Chatterjee’s TikTok page.
A video shows Lily patiently waiting.
And then coming to her feet as soon as she sees his truck. She then runs to the end of her driveway, wagging her tail like crazy.
She then jumps up and down in extreme excitement as he comes toward her. It’s so sweet to see how much she loves her best friend.
While Chatterjee doesn’t deny that Lily’s affections might be influenced by the treats in Davi’s pockets, he still thinks that Lily truly loves David because he’s a good a guy.
The kind of guy that goes out of his way to put dog treats in his pockets at work just to make the neighborhood dogs happy.
Lily is kind to people no matter what. Especially those that are kind to her.
“She shows us how to be more kind to others!” Chatterjee said. “It’s amazing what we can learn from animals.”
