If you have a pet, especially a cat, then you know just how challenging the holidays are. We’re talking specifically about Christmas or more precisely, Christmas trees. Whether it’s the scent of the tree or the shiny decorations, animals find it impossible to ignore. They don’t just sit quietly with admiration but rather, they have to be right in the middle of it.
Do you have an ornery pet? With Christmas just around the corner, one of these options might inspire you. If nothing else, they’ll give you a good laugh.
1. Shoot for the stars…
…or in this case, the ceiling. If you think about it, that’s a brilliant idea. And yes, that fox counts as a family pet.
2. 1/2 and 1/2
If you have a pet that constantly gets into ornaments near the base, check this out. They still have a Christmas tree and it’s still decorated. But only from the middle up.
3. ROFL
A lot of dogs are scared of vacuum cleaners. So, to stop their pup from eating the ornaments, they came up with a great idea. Now, their pooch doesn’t go near the tree.
4. Cat’s version
Well, how about that? This sweet kitty has his own Christmas tree. Whether the rest of the family has one, that remains a mystery.
5. Upside down
Here’s another tree hanging upside down. It’s just a miniature version. Regardless, you have to admit it’s pretty festive.
6. Innovative and classy
What do you do with an empty dollhouse during the holidays? If you’re a pet owner, you can use it to display the tree. This is quite beautiful and perhaps the start of a new trend.
7. Dog kennel conversion
While not as beautiful as the dollhouse, this works in much the same way. Just flip a wire dog cage on one end, place a Christmas tree inside, and call it done. That’s actually a cool idea.
8. Oh, the embarrassment
You see, this cat hates it when his owners put him in costumes. So, every time he tries to grab an ornament, you guessed it. He has to wear his Christmas outfit for 15 minutes.
9. Yet again
This one might be the coolest so far. For one thing, the pets can’t reach it. But also, it has a cute dangling star that adds just the right touch.
10. It’s so cute
This is another cat version of a Christmas tree. In this case, it’s a little more decorative. The kitties can play with the ornaments and without getting in trouble.
11. The dreamer
It’s good to have big dreams. But you have to feel sorry for this kitty since hers won’t ever come to fruition. Not only is the Christmas tree hanging from the ceiling small but it’s also extremely high.
12. Sorry, buddy
Well, that’s one way to keep the dog away from the Christmas tree. We just have one question. Does it work or does this pup simply hop over it?
13. Going all out
A lot of these options are great for smaller pets. But what happens if you have a massive German Shepherd? No problem…fencing works just fine.
14. Two solutions in one
You know that saying, “Desperate times call for desperate measures” It certainly applies here. But along with keeping the pets away, this person can just store the tree as it is until next year.
15. Block it in
For smaller animals, this might be okay. A wall of presents could be a perfect deterrent. As for larger pets, that’s definitely a fail.
16. A simple trick
Today, you can find all kinds of containers at hobby stores. For instance, an oversized glass one like this. The animals can still see the tree with its ornaments but they can’t climb on it.
17. An educational tree
Instead of using a real or artificial tree for Christmas, this pet owner made one out of books. Even if a pet tries to explore, it won’t do any damage. At least that’s the theory.
18. She’s a genius
The woman who owns this cat is truly a genius. After all, dogs aren’t the only animals afraid of vacuum cleaners. So, during Christmas time, all her kitty can do is sit and stare.
19. Just one, please
From the look on this cat’s face, that’s what he’s hoping for…that just one ornament would fall. But he’s out of luck. Wishful thinking.
20. They surrendered
After battling with their cat for years, one couple finally surrendered. They tried different options but this is what they ended up with. Thankfully, they still have Christmas presents.
21. Creativity at its best
One couple didn’t want to spend money on a Christmas tree only for their cat to destroy it. So, the wife turned a tomato cage upside down, threw a brown and green blanket on tops of it, and tossed on a few lights. Hey, it works.
22. It’s so shiny
We have to admit this is pretty awesome. Instead of buying a tree, a guy made one out of empty beer cans. Now, he has a one-of-a-kind pet-proof masterpiece.
23. In the kennel
Here’s another dog kennel used to keep animals away from the Christmas tree. But in this case, the couple added a few festive bows. It’s really pretty and pet-proof.
24. Wine drinker’s dream
For pet owners who aren’t big beer drinkers, they can always make a tree out of wine bottles. Of course, this would take some ingenuity. But there’s a good chance that pets wouldn’t have any interest in it.
25. It’s been framed
Literally, this person framed a Christmas tree. This is a great craft project that looks stunning. And there’s no need to worry about pets knocking it over.
26. Accept the inevitable
For some pet owners, it might be easier to just accept the inevitable. Case in point…this family. At least their kitty makes a gorgeous star.
27. Mad cat
Here’s another person who got tired of fighting their cat every Christmas. So, they resorted to this. The only problem, they said their kitty is so mad all he does is look at it and meow loudly.
28. The ultimate solution
In one home, not only did the dog get into the tree but also their young girl. That meant coming up with something that would work for both. The dog could care less. On the other hand, the daughter doesn’t look too happy.
29. Smart move
One dad told his daughter they needed to pet-proof the Christmas tree. So, this is what he came up with. It might work but now, there’s no furniture for anyone to sit on.
30. Very festive
Okay, not really. Come on, there aren’t even any lights or ornaments. And that’s not to mention there’s an issue with the size of the tree. Maybe they borrowed it from one of Santa’s elves.
31. Holiday table
For whatever reason, this woman’s cats don’t mess with her “holiday table.” So, it makes perfect sense to put some kind of Christmas there. Maybe all kitty owners should have a space like this.
32. Ideal for dog owners
This is a great place to put a tree if you have dogs. Now, if you own cats, it just won’t work. While having the tree in the kitchen is a little strange, for this person, it’s ideal.
33. Completely encased
So, when you have dogs, cats, and kids, you have to think outside of the box. That’s what this individual did. They built a case around the entire tree.
34. That’s no fun
Seriously? This family has a “tree” although it only consists of lights. The pup looks super bummed.
35. Bah humbug
That’s what this pup thinks about Christmas. His owners moved the tree out of reach. What’s the point of the holiday if you can’t get into the ornaments?
