There is nothing crueler than the act of abandoning your pet and leaving them to fend for themselves on the street, cold, hungry, and alone.
But unfortunately, this is a reality that is becoming more and more common for animal rescue charities like Howl Of A Dog.
The center is based in Romania and provides shelter to stray dogs from across the country.
In a recent YouTube video, some of the amazing volunteers are taking part in a spay/neuter campaign when they come across the most adorable little guy.
This beautiful dog, who volunteers named Remy, was living out on the streets. Heartbreakingly, he slept on a sidewalk in front of a grocery store, where the kind store owners would feed him every day.
But Remy was incredibly lonely, and he craved love and affection from a human.
Each day when the volunteers came to visit, he would come to greet them, his tail wagging a mile a minute. Naturally, he was a little hesitant, but still a really friendly guy.
Shockingly, the volunteers found that Remy had been burned on his nose with a red hot iron, leaving a permanent scar.
Many villagers in Romania believe that this cruel act will build up a dog’s immune system and treat distemper.
Sadly, this has never been proved to be true. This practice simply causes the animal to feel horrific pain and trauma.
The volunteers also realized that Remy’s left ear was torn off at the tip, however, we can not be sure whether this injury occurred whilst Remy was living with his last owners, or if he obtained it from living on the streets.
Volunteers then fed Remy a tin of dog food, which he ate hungrily. You can see just how grateful he is to be given such love and kindness from these humans.
Remy was then neutered as a part of Howl Of A Dog’s campaign. We’ve never before seen a dog looking so happy to be at the vets. Just look at that smile!
Remy was also given his very own collar. Doesn’t it look handsome on him?
The volunteers hoped that the collar would protect him so he would no longer be seen as a feral dog.
Remy is so loving and friendly that the volunteers are not worried about him getting adopted. But unfortunately, in many rural areas of Romania, dogs are mostly just seen as ‘tools’ used for protecting properties, guarding livestock or hunting.
Friendly dogs like Remy would be considered ‘useless’.
The volunteers continued to visit Remy. He was always waiting in the same spot, rain or shine. He wasn’t about to give up hope.
Howl Of A Dog were doing everything they could to try and find this adorable guy a loving home, but sadly, no one wanted him.
So they decided to take him with them.
When the video aired, Remy is shown to now be in the care of Howl Of A Dog. He now has a safe space, a warm bed, plenty of toys, and other doggy friends.
But his story isn’t over yet. Remy is desperate for a home so that he can finally get his happy ending. He’s been without an owner for far too long.
However, since the video has been shared, it seems that Remy has finally found a home. We checked the website to take a look at the current dogs up for adoption, and Remy wasn’t one of them!
We are so glad that this little guy has finally got his happy ending, and we are thankful to Howl Of A Dog for the amazing work that their charity is doing.
