There’s a lot to love about fall. Sweater weather, pumpkin spice everything, lots and lots of candy, and, of course, the foliage.

Even after the leaves dazzle us by popping with stunning colors, they delight us when the fall to the ground.

Who doesn’t love jumping in a pile of leaves? The foxes at the UK’s Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary certainly do.

“The foxes always enjoy autumn leaves every year,” a representative from Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary told The Dodo. “They enjoy sniffing through the piles and forage and playing in the leaves. It makes for a simple but effective enrichment.”

But the foxes weren’t the only ones having fun with the leaves.

The children at Little Rainbows at Church House Nursey and Fylingsdales Preschool collected all the leaves that fell at their nurseries.

They then donated the leaves so that the foxes could play with them. The foxes got a good sniff of those leaves before they jumped in to play.

“We have recently seen that Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary were in need of leaves to help their rescue animals thrive whilst at the sanctuary so we thought this was a great opportunity to get our children involved!” Little Rainbows at Church House Nursery wrote on Facebook. “The children helped gather up all of the leaves that have fallen at nursery and scooped them into bags ready to take to the sanctuary very soon! We hope that the foxes have lots of fun playing with the leaves.”

According to the photos that the Sanctuary took, it sure does look like the foxes had the time of their lives.

They have footage of the foxes dive-bombing piles of leaves.

Some of these guys jumped face-first into the leaves. They were roughhousing and wrestling with the leaves crunching below them.

The foxes even snuggled up and slept on them. They just look like they have big grins on their faces.

These leaves are apparently their happy place.

And one fox was in love with her leaves more than the others. One of the foxes, named Ruby, spent most of that day napping in the leaves.

Ruby is a three-legged fox that is “too comfortable around humans for release.” Another one of their foxes just buried itself in a pile.

The Sanctuary was very happy that the foxes had such a good time and that other people got to see how joyful these foxes were playing in the leaves.

“They likely enjoy them as it is a break from the norm that provides a new stimulus for them to interact with,” the sanctuary representative said. “It always warms the heart. [It] makes every volunteer here happy to see the foxes enjoying themselves.”

You can help the Sanctuary’s foxes by donating dog food or to their reopening campaign.
