Sometimes you just need a good cry! This story is one of those tear-jerking stories that is innocent and good all the way through. Nicki Clawson is a foster mom for dogs and has been loving it for over a year! She never expected what was to come next, though.
When Nicki met Cookie, she knew it was love.
When you foster pets, there are different animals in and out of your home all the time. While you form connections with many of them, it’s not possible to have a crazy deep connection with every single one. While you don’t form the connection with every animal, there is the occasional four-legged-friend who sneaks past the walls of your heart and takes up a room.
Cookie was that for Nickie.
Cookie is a boxer who found a fast friend in his new foster mom Nicki. After a bit of time, it was obvious that Nicki and Cookie were destined to be more than just passing friends, and it was time to make the adoption permanent!
Since Nicki was so gentle-hearted, her friends decided to set up a “prank” to give Cookie to her.
Tim, Nicki’s husband, and Jessica, the coordinator for the adoption, got together to make a surprise happen. After a brainstorming sesh, everyone got to work in making Nicki the happiest girl ever.
Nicki was told that there was a potential adopter who wanted to do a meet-and-greet with the dog.
As the foster mom, Nicki got Cookie ready and brought him along to meet the “potential family” that was going to adopt him.
The drive over was probably a rough one.
While we don’t have insight into the car ride, we can imagine that it was probably an emotional one. The thought of having to drop off your friend to strangers, hoping that they take care of him is tough. She was probably sullen and down as she drove to the meet-up.
After getting to the location, she waited… and waited, and waited.
Waiting around for the potential adopters, Nicki just kept assuming they were late. After some time, though, they never showed up. As she was about to call it quits, she had the shock of a lifetime.
Opening the folder to call the adopters, Nicki was confused when she saw her own number in the file.
Looking up, she asked why her own number was listed. The response that she got back shocked her.
“Well, that’s the number of who is adopting her”
Breaking down into tears, Nicki finally realized what was happening.
“I cried for four days straight”
Admitting that she was the happiest she had ever been, Nicki explained that she had been crying for four days about having to give away the dog. Thankfully, no such thing would have to happen with Cookie. Even though she feigned anger with her friend and husband, everyone knew how happy she was that Cookie as now a part of the family.
“You are part of our family now! Forever.”
This touching story is a reminder of the innocence of love between a human and their dog. It is a wonderful thing to see a woman made so happy. After three years, the family is still living and loving Cookie the boxer.
