Meet Mr. Belvedere: a tomcat who spent the first ten years of his life out on the street.
Mr. B was part of a small feral cat colony. A group of cat lovers looked after the colony, and many people fell in love with Mr. B. The rescuers put out traps and tried to catch him, but the cat didn’t want to be caught.
One rescuer, Lindsay Raturi, desperately wanted to give Mr. B a better life. But the cat seemed to be a feral outdoor cat through-and-through.
One day, Raturi went to check her cat trap, and to her surprise, she found Mr. B inside. Raturi was shocked to see Mr. B in the cage after so long.
“When Mr. B walked into the trap, I think he realized he need help and that maybe we were gonna help him,” Raturi said in a YouTube video.
Raturi brought Mr. B to the vet, and she learned that the poor cat had mange, ear mites, and FIV.
The vet recommended putting the cat down, but Raturi looked into Mr. B’s eyes and saw he had some fight left in him. Once she saw that, she knew she would do everything she could to make him healthy again.
At first, Mr. B wouldn’t let Raturi pet him, and he also wouldn’t let her give him his medicine. The nervous cat stayed in his cage, too scared to explore Raturi’s house. Raturi decided to pet the cat with a wooden spoon to see if that would help make him less nervous.
Once Mr. B had calmed down a bit, Raturi tried petting him while wearing a garden glove. Mr. B quickly realized that he loved getting scratches on his head, and he let Raturi pet him without her garden glove. He also let her give him his medicine.
Slowly but surely, Mr. B began recovering from his various illnesses.
Once Mr. B was healthy enough, Raturi started looking for the right forever home for him. She quickly found the perfect new mom for him: a cat lover named Jenna Decristofaro.
“I cried when I saw him,” Decristofaro said. “We brought him up to my apartment and let him roam around. Just thinking about the moment, I get teary, because it was so special.”
Decristofaro treated Mr. B like her son, and in return, Mr. B became the biggest mama’s boy. The cat loved cuddling more than anything, and he always enjoyed spending time with his mom. Looking at him now, it’s hard it believe this sweet cat lived on the streets for ten years!
“I wanted him to live a good, long, happy life,” Decristofaro said. “And I wanted to be a part of that.”
Today, Mr. B is doing great! Decristofaro shares photos and videos of all his adventures on his Instagram page. Decristofaro says Mr. B loves playing with toys more than anything—he’s become a kitten again in his golden years!
