You’re about to meet a cat named Meatball. When Meatball was just a young lad, he was slim, svelte, and a much more fit cat than he is today. Today — let’s just say that Meatball has let himself go in his later years.

Meatball lives in Hong Kong with his mate named Mochi, and their two little ones named Nugget and Pepper. Of course, there are his humans that provide them with a lovely home to live in — Daphnie and her husband Koon Wah.

Even though there are 4 kitty cats in one home, it’s generally a loving, kind and blissful environment. Everyone is one big happy family. Well — except during mealtime that is. That’s a bit of a different story.

As soon as the Mochi and Meatball’s kittens were old enough to start eating dry food, Daphnie and Koon Wah decided to start feeding all 4 cats at one time. Unfortunately — this efficient plan of there’s didn’t exactly go as swimmingly as they had hoped.

At mealtime — Meatball was under the impression that all the food put out for 4 cats must be for him and for him alone!

Meatball was gorging himself on any and all the food he could get. Not only were the other cats in the household missing out on their full serving, but Meatball was packing on the pounds. And quickly!

Not only was Meatball plumping up but he was serving as an example to his two little kitties. In fact — Pepper picked up on her dad’s horrible habit.

Like father like daughter, Meatball’s daughter even started eating more than her fair share resulting in a bit of a tummy!

Daphnie and Kooh Wah realized that this was not the best way to go about dealing with mealtime. They didn’t want to resort to feeding them at separate times so they put their thinking caps on and devised a plan.

“Koon Wah built partitions to separate them during meal times,” Daphnie told a fellow website.

First made out of cardboard, and then upgraded to wood with a decorative flap, each cat had their own food cubby to eat in.

“We also had some fabric from some sake wine we bought in Japan and I sewed these to the front of each partition,” she said.

Now, each cat has their own private dining experience where they can eat their food in peace — and in the proper portion!

“It has helped a little in terms of separating them during meal times but in terms of weight control, Meatball and Pepper are still a little overweight and the chubbier out of the four cats,” Daphnie said.

Thanks to Daphnie and Kooh Wah’s creativity, both Meatball and Pepper have slimmed down to a much healthier weight.
