It was the eve of “Ashada Ekadashi,” a holy day in Hinduism, in 2016 when 54-year-old Prakash Patil’s neighbor told him that a fish washed onto his farm in Maharashtra, India.

His neighbor, who was vegetarian, gave Patil the fish assuming that Patil would eat the wild catfish.

When Patil came across the fish he found that it was still alive sitting in its puddle of water. So, the poor farmer scooped the fish up into a plastic container with some water and took the fish home with him.

The fish began to get healthier so Patil transferred the fish into a tank of water and fed the fish over the next month.

Eventually, the fish regained its health and grew quite large. So, Patil released the fish into a local farm. Patil thought the fish would swim off and live his life in the wild, however, the catfish had other plans.

He noticed that the fish would return to the pond often and would swim right up to the bank when Patil was near. He even jumped inside a bucket the farmer used to draw water.

After a while, the fish let Patil touch him and even lift him out of the water.

Now Patil visits the fish every day. The fish comes swimming right up when Patil calls out the fish’s name, “Narayana,” which is another name for the Hindu deity Lord Vishnu. Patil named the fish this because he believes that the fish represents a form of Lord Vishnu.

A video was taken that catches their unusually close relationship.

Patil is shown affectionately calling out to the fish, “Narayana!” That’s when the fish appears. Patil gets very excited and starts to blow kisses at his friend.

He then lifts the fish up out of the water and kind of tries to cuddle with it. Even though the fish keeps squiggling out of his arms and back into the water, he keeps swimming back over to the man.

Many people have commented on the NTD Television Facebook page that the only reason the fish comes to the pond is that because Patil is feeding and the fish is just in it for the food.

Maybe so, but these two seem to have struck up a good deal that makes them both very happy. Check out the video below.
