Moose are known as large wild animals with imposing antlers. But did you know that baby moose drink their mother’s milk for about six months and stay with their mothers until they are a year old?

A pair of twin moose in British Columbia, Canada, were orphaned early on when their mom was hit by a car.

Sadly, they were left to fend for themselves.

Mimi Kramer and her family spotted these orphaned moose wandering around the area near their home.

“It was on the bus in the morning. My bus driver pulled over and he said, ‘Oh my gosh guys, it’s a baby moose!”Mimi Kramer shared with the Dodo.

Kramer said that moose were not common in their area, and they kept seeing these baby moose throughout the entire week.

They were wondering why their mom wasn’t with them until they heard the news of the accident that had orphaned the moose.

“We knew we had to do something. Immediately, my mom sprung into action to find the baby moose,” Kramer said.

The family rode with the moose inside their car and brought them back to their home.

Kramer shared that finding a sanctuary to take the moose in was hard.

They called a conservation officer, and he helped them look for a sanctuary, but they couldn’t find one that was ready to take in a pair of baby moose.

“The first thing he asked was, are you ready to take care of these moose for the next couple of days?” Kramer shared.

The family immediately said yes and began caring for the babies.

Everyone was excited to be the orphans’ surrogate family for a week.

Kramer said they began trying to feed the baby moose and named them Clover and Chocolate.

Clover, the younger moose, was very low on energy because she hadn’t had her mother’s milk in a few days.

After successfully feeding the babies and staying with them to keep them calm, Kramer and her family noticed that the moose began gaining their energy back.

She happily shared, “Snuggling with a puppy is cute, but snuggling with a baby moose is on another level.”

Even with the challenges of caring for baby moose, Kramer and her family thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

When Chocolate and Clover were ready to go outside again, they became more playful and energetic.

The moose were secure in knowing they were safe with the Kramer family.

“Clover was a little more energetic and affectionate. Chocolate was a little more lazy I think. Seeing them run around and playing together, they were just having so much fun. It was a good feeling,” Kramer continued.

She also laughingly said that she never noticed how long the baby moose legs were until they started clumsily walking around their yard.

After a few days of being cared for, the moose got their energy and attitude back, and they were ready to become baby moose again.

“Once we found a sanctuary for them, they had to leave. I cried so hard,” Kramer shared.

The entire Kramer family was happy that the moose would be able to live in the wild like they are supposed to.

In the sanctuary, they’ve moved to the outdoor area from their nursery, and they’re beginning to look more like grown-up moose than babies.

Thanks to the Kramer family and everyone who helped Clover and Chocolate, the orphaned moose can live a happy and normal life in the wild.

We hope they grow up healthy, strong, and ready to face the great outdoors.
