How well do you know your pet? If you have a line of dogs, for example, of the same breed, with them being relatively of the same size and build, will you be able to identify your dog among the group?
A family in Virginia had this kind of dilemma when they realized their dog wasn’t who she seemed. It was a mistake with hilarious consequences.
Kebby and Joe Kelley picked up their dog Ehmi, pronounced “Emmy”, from the daycare.
Their adorable 1-and-a-half-year-old Golden Retriever was more than excited to get home. They regularly leave Ehmi at Affectionate Pet Care in Fairfax, Virginia, and expressed they love the business.
That time, the couple also opted for a haircut for Ehmi and asked their son to pick her up and drop her off at their house.
It was then that they realized something was strange.
They couldn’t pinpoint it at first and shrugged it off. They blamed the haircut for Ehmi’s strange vibes. Things, however, became more and more suspicious.
Their cats, they claimed, loved Ehmi to bits. However, for the first time, they saw the cats attack the dog. Moreover, they knew that Ehmi loved a particular neighbor. But on the day that the dog encountered the person, she gave no reaction at all.
They also noticed that the dog had different habits.
They claimed that Ehmi doesn’t usually come up to them to lick their faces. However, this Ehmi licked and even nibbled on Joe’s nose.
The couple said even the trainer noticed something about the dog’s behavior was a bit off. The changes worried the couple. They think their dog is sick especially when Kebby described the dog as “anxious.”
They brought Ehmi to the daycare to get to the bottom of the case.
The veterinarian checked on the dog and when they scanned the microchip, the truth was finally revealed – the dog they’ve been calling Ehmi was a different dog!
The couple was grateful that the dog’s owner had their pet chipped. Microchips function as your pet’s identification tag and it helps people locate and identify their dogs in case they are missing.
“We just never even thought that that would happen,” Kebby said to FOX 5. “I will tell everybody that loves their pet, chip your pet.”
Eventually, through the help of the daycare center, the owners were reunited with their dogs.
The daycare said Ehmi has a “twin” named Maddy. The dogs look so alike that their owners think they must have the same ancestor up in their line – long-lost sisters or a distant cousin.
The couple also said they were not upset with the daycare and were actually grateful for their prompt coordination.
But all in all, there’s a question that bogs everyone’s minds. Why did the dog go with the couple in the first place?
“Only a golden retriever would willingly go home with a complete stranger,” said one commenter. We don’t know about you, but we’d feel extremely hurt if our dog went home with someone else!
