There’s a mystery in this Philadelphia home.
Content creator Kass Whisler, or @phillyfoodgirl, and her family has been hearing noises through the walls of their home.
It started off as soft, then became more persistent for every moment that passed.
The family finally decided to investigate where the desperate cries were coming from and didn’t expect it to come from something so adorable.
The family hunkered around a pipe that leads to the basement fireplace.
Inside, they can hear persistent meowing from a kitten. With flashlights and tools, they cut off some of the pipes to see if they could rescue the poor thing.
They sliced the pipe open but couldn’t find the animal.
They can definitely hear the cries, however, and they know the kitten is still inside, where no place to run or exit.
No one knows the kitten’s condition, so they needed to act fast.
Then, their son made a surgical cut on the pipe where he suspected the sound was coming from.
He ripped the side of the pipe open using a pair of pliers. And there it was, a heart-stopping moment of joy and relief—they caught a glimpse of the stranded ball of fur through the hole they had created.
But their hole wasn’t big enough and crude around the edges.
They made a final cut where the kitten could fit then Whisler’s husband put his arms into the pipe.
After hours of searching, the kitten was finally free.
In a series of videos, Whisler explained how they ended up in a situation where they had to rescue the little kitten.
She said that she heard two kittens crying. Their mom was also “growling” from inside the house.
They gave the cats some food, thinking they were all set for the night.
The next morning, however, the crying continued.
This time, the cat family was nowhere to be seen. She then followed where the sound was coming from.
Apparently, the kitten got a little too curious and waddled its way into a pipe just beside the air-conditioning system.
They named the kitten Murphy Danger.
Since they found the kitten during the Memorial Day Weekend, they wanted to follow the initials MDW. They chose Murphy in honor of Michael Murphy, a Navy SEAL killed in Afghanistan in 2005. They chose Danger so Murphy could say, “Danger is my middle name.”
Commenters said, however, that they should’ve opted for Mario or even Luigi since the kitten was found inside a pipe.
The family rushed Murphy to the Providence Shelter.
The kitten got much-needed medical attention. Murphy was estimated to be only four or five weeks old when they found him.

Whisler and her family fostered the little kitten but clarified that it was all for formality. They said that once the kitten reaches a certain weight, they can officially adopt him.

That means a little adjustment for Murphy Danger as he was already making himself comfortable with the Whistlers.
