We’ll never understand the people who have no time for their pets anymore when children come along. Some people seem to treat their pets as “a practice child” – and then when they fall pregnant, they simply decide that they no longer need their pet anymore.
It’s heartbreaking because to a pet, you are their whole life.
Stormy the dog experienced first-hand what it feels like to be left for somebody else.
When somebody leaves, your default might be to question what’s wrong with you. But the thing is, Stormy was a brilliant dog in every way. He was what you call a good all-rounder, and got along with anyone that was in the room – whether that be children, other dogs, or even cats!
So when his owners became pregnant with their fifth child, you’d think that they would be thrilled to have Stormy coming along for the ride with them.
But it seemed that the prospect of having five children and a dog in the house had pushed the family to breaking point. Devastatingly, the family decided that the only option they had was to get rid of Stormy.
“He spent all of his life with a family with four children, two [other] dogs — one small, one big — and a cat, Then the woman got pregnant and had her fifth baby, and decided that he was too much.”- Alana Guerrini, Shelter Volunteer
The family at least had the decency to take Stormy to a shelter – albeit one of the busiest in Brooklyn.
The shelter decided that the sweet pup deserved a new name – and Freshly became Stormy. The poor guy was totally confused as to why he was at the shelter. He must have wondered where his parents were and why they weren’t coming back to collect him.
“You could see the fear and terror in his eyes in that picture [at the shelter], and you could see how broken hearted he was,” Guerrini said. “I looked at that face, and it absolutely crushed me.”
