Bringing home a new member of the family is a big deal — and some take it better than others.
No matter what species the newcomer is, they’re bound to create disruption in everyday life. They’re also one more mouth to feed and one more thing that needs attention. That’s why siblings are usually not the biggest fans of new babies.
Kevin knows how this feels. His life was turned upside down one day when his parents brought home his baby brother Lyle without preparing him at all. He simply couldn’t believe the people he loved so much would do this to him.
In case it wasn’t obvious, Kevin and Lyle are both dogs.
The pups belong to Carleigh Johnson Stroup and her husband. Stroup told The Dodo that Kevin has long been the master of his domain and has always been an attention-seeker and inveterate cuddler.
“Kevin is so sweet and loving,” she said. “We can never lay down without him immediately laying down with one of us.”
To be fair, we can see why Kevin would be put out by his parents bringing home another puppy. After all, they could have simply paid more attention to HIM.
He’s RIGHT THERE.
But no. Instead, Kevin’s owners insulted him greatly by bringing home an adorable and high-energy puppy.
Dogs are creatures of habit, so new roommates can lead to all sorts of anxiety, especially when it comes to divided attention from their loved ones and protecting their turf.
And anyone with a younger sibling knows that they pretty much end your carefree days of peace and quiet. Just check out Kevin’s reaction to Lyle trying to play with him.
The hilarious clip has gone viral not just because the dogs are adorable, but because it’s almost as if viewers can read Kevin’s mind as he stares into the camera with a look of betrayal on his face.
It’s a look that says: “Are you serious?”
“That’s absolutely his signature, ‘What. Have. You. Done.’ face,” Stroup said.
As Lyle — who is quite the cutie — begs for his big brother’s attention, Kevin’s death stare never wavers. He’s hoping that if he looks serious enough his parents will end the charade and get things back to normal.
In typical younger sibling fashion, Lyle never gets the hint that he’s not welcome. In fact, all he wants is to be close to Kevin. ALWAYS.
“He only wants to go where Kevin goes,” Stroup said. “He’s just absolutely obsessed with him.”
But no matter how much Lyle tries to prove that he’s just one of the family, Kevin will not stop giving a notably betrayed look to his parents.
He probably doesn’t want them to get any more ideas about new family members.
Despite his reticence to accept his new brother, at the end of the day, Kevin had no choice. He’s now resigned himself to the fact that he’s no longer an only dog.
And, to be fair, Lyle does come in handy when the humans are not around to worship him.
“Even after all of Lyle’s attempts at ruining Kevin’s peace and quiet, they’ve become inseparable,” Stroup said. “Kevin appreciates having a brother to hang out with when we are gone.”
The adorable duo now have their own Instagram page after the video of Kevin’s betrayed reaction went viral. You can follow them at @the_doodle_brotherz.
Spoiler alert: Kevin is still a bit miffed.
