Unleashed Pet Rescue and Adoption loves to rescue dogs and find new homes for them. The staff are helping to get these pets off the streets and keep them healthy and happy. On a recent trip to Kansas, they found several chihuahuas that they brought back with them.

One of the dogs, named Laugh Out Loud, or LOL for short, was pregnant.

They knew she would be having puppies any day, and they were prepared to care for them until they could find new homes, too. It’s always easier to find homes for new puppies than adults, so they weren’t too worried about it.

Instead of raising the puppies in a shelter where they wouldn’t get a lot of human interaction or one-on-one attention, foster manager Jessica Bennett decided to try to find LOL a home before she gave birth. This way, the mom and the puppies could stay together for a while and they could be introduced to people and other animals at an early age.

Josie Boyd Brown and her family stepped up to help the expectant mother.

They were excited about the fact that she was pregnant and couldn’t wait to meet her babies. They helped make her comfortable at their home. Before long, they noticed that she was in labor.

She gave birth on National Puppy Day. While chihuahuas are small dogs that usually only give birth to three or four puppies in a litter, LOL had a big surprise. The family watched as she pushed out five puppies. They were impressed. This was a hard job for a small dog. She wasn’t done yet, though. She continued to labor and eventually had five more puppies.

She gave birth to a total of 10 puppies!

Once the mother finished birthing the pups, the family helped her get them clean and then made sure they were all eating well and doing OK. Then, they left the mom and her babies alone and went to bed for the night.

The next morning, they were excited to check on the pups and mama. Josie wanted to know the genders of the puppies.

As she checked them and counted, she got eight boys and three girls.

But she couldn’t figure out why she was getting an odd number. There were only 10 puppies when she went to bed.

That’s when she realized that LOL was still in labor and had given birth to an 11th puppy after the family had gone to sleep. The poor dog had been in labor for more than 12 hours and was clearly exhausted but also trying to care for her babies.

Josie did some searches online and found out that LOL had just broken a world record for her breed when she birthed that 11th puppy.

She wasn’t just a new mom; she was a world record holder. Josie contacted the Guinness Book of World Records, who made it official.

LOL sure does love all of her puppies, and her human family is growing pretty attached to them, too. The puppies will stay with their mom and the foster family until they are at least 10 weeks old. After that, they will head out into the world to find their own homes.

They are each adorable and will make great pets for the right family.

Right now, they just have to be cute, fill up their bellies with milk, and accept all the hugs and cuddles they can get from their foster family. Their mom deserves a special reward and a long rest after safely delivering all those babies and breaking a world record in the process.
