In the age where everyone has a phone, people just love playing the role of the moral police.
They bust out their phones the second the deem someone to be doing something socially unacceptable, then film people without their consent, and post it on the internet in order to shame that person.
More often than not, these videos will only show part of the situation. So, the viewers make judgments based only what they see without knowing what happened before the camera was turned on or when it was turned off.
Megan Stoff decided to play judge and jury when she posted a video of a mother who was upset that Megan told her she couldn’t pet her service dog.
A woman and her child were walking through a mall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when she stopped and asked if she could pet Megan’s dogs.
She didn’t just pet the dogs. She asked if she could pet the dog. Megan told her “no.” These were service dogs who were working.
According to Anything Pawsable, you shouldn’t pet service dogs because they are working and need to be focused.
If you distract them, their owner could get injured or the animal could lose focus of the job they are doing.
When these animals are training, they have to get used to avoiding distractions.
According to Megan’s video, the mother wasn’t upset that she couldn’t pet the dog.
She was upset by how rude Megan was about it.
This mom was so pissed off that she came back just to tell Megan off. She even dropped a few “f-bombs” in the process.
So Megan posted a video justifying her rudeness and denouncing this angry mom’s reaction to her less-than-sweet response to her request.
Here’s what Megan wrote in her Facebook post:
“Had this crazy experience yesterday at the mall where some lady asked if she could pet the dogs. People ask us all the time so I just said, “no.” All the dogs are working so it’s my go to answer. And they walked away. No big deal right?”
“This lady went out of her way to come back with her child and yell at us for saying “no” and for not saying, “nO iM sOrRy ThEy’Re TrAiNiNg.” And we should “have a sign or something.” You mean the 20 patches on my dog that say don’t pet? Entitlement these days is real. They even got mall security because we said they couldn’t pet the working dogs. Security said that the lady was crying. So much harassment for just saying no. This video is public and is shareable. There was no common sense here.”
Instead of everyone just dealing with it and talking it out, Megan decided to video shame this woman and threaten to call the police on her for “harassing service dogs.”
She even made this mom cry.
Megan’s Facebook post keeps placing the blame on the mother insisting that the woman wouldn’t take no for answer. But that’s not what I see in this video.
It seems like this mom was just upset because Megan was incredibly rude to her.
She even says in the video that she could have just kindly explained that they were service dogs and that you can’t pet them.
Apparently, it was too much for Megan to respond like a civilized human being and with kindness. She didn’t take any responsibility for her actions.
The mother did complain that there should be signs when there were obviously several that stated said the dog was a service dog.
Again…entitled, much?
The mother said a few words then walked away. Should you pet a service dog – no. If the handler says no – it’s a no.
This situation could have been easily resolved with a few words and an apology from both parties.
You know, like how grown-ups do.
But now there are more than millions of people who have watched it and hundreds who are spouting negativity, hatred, and judgment about the woman and her over-the-top fit.
