“Dogs’ lives are too short. Their only fault, really.”–Agnes Sligh Turnbull.
Growing up with a dog, you do things together.
You play, eat, and even sleep together, but soon, you see your beloved pet grow old.
It pains any dog owner to see their pets grow old.
From being filled with energy to sleeping more, and for some, show signs of illness.
If only we could take this pain away. If only we could extend their years.
Unfortunately, this is their reality.
Just a few days ago, a story blew up that made people worldwide shed a tear.
Meet Mellow, a rescue pup who became a town’s beloved dog.
On June 02, 2023, KJ Warunek saw two flyers posted around their neighborhood.
Curious, she read the paper.
“Mellow’s Last Walk Around Dupont,” KJ read.
It was a letter from Kevin, Mellow’s owner.
“My name is Mellow, and I have been living in Dupont since September 2019 with my owner Kevin,” the note stated.
Then the letter talked about how many people in the neighborhood might have noticed him and Kevin walking daily.
“Regardless of how well we know each other, you have made my life so much richer than any rescue dog could have hoped for. I am grateful to have such caring neighbors and live in a community that looks out for one another so well,” Mellow and Kevin said in the letter.
The touching letter between Mellow and Kevin concluded by saying that the kind dog will soon leave for “doggie heaven” in June.
They said he has lymphoma, a cancer that would end his dog years too soon.
Because of this, the 7-year-old dog requested his kind neighbors, if they had time, to go out and say one last goodbye to him.
Attached is the map of Mellow’s last walk and the time.
KJ’s heart sank upon reading the flyer. She wanted to see Mellow.
All the kind neighbors, including KJ, who lives in the neighboring vicinity, went out and waited for Mellow.
Even with his illness, Mellow’s tail wagged with joy.
There were people everywhere, and they were all smiling.
Each one, waiting their turn to come up to sweet Mellow and give him a hug, kisses, pats, and even his favorite, some belly rubs.
Some children even made banners that read “We Love Mellow.”
Joy filled Kevin’s heart as he saw so many people show their love for Mellow.
The feeling of love and joy was indeed overwhelming.
For Mellow, it was an hour he would never forget.
He went home still joyful from his farewell walk.
KJ shared this beautiful moment on a Facebook page named Dogspotting Society, and it went viral.
The news about Mellow’s final walk reached different news channels and indeed touched millions of hearts.
It also helped Kevin’s heart deal with the fact that he’ll lose his best friend.
So many people are reaching out to KJ; some even mentioned going to Dupont, Pennsylvania, to see Kevin and Mellow.
The efforts of these kind-hearted people are overwhelming.
“Thank you for making my life so good!” Mellow ended the viral letter.
