In the realm of both humans and animals, the nurturing and compassion provided to infants are crucial for their growth and development.
Tragically, there are instances when these young ones are separated from their mothers, as was the case with a baby elephant named Dok Geaw.
At the tender age of one year and nine months, Dok Geaw found himself alone in the world until he was rescued and brought to Elephant Nature Park, a sanctuary for elephants.
Dok Geaw’s situation was dire, not only because he was injured but also because he was motherless.
In the animal kingdom, and particularly among elephants, the absence of a mother during the early years can significantly impact an infant’s growth.
Young elephants typically follow their mothers everywhere, learning essential survival skills from her and the rest of the herd.
Without a mother, Dok Geaw’s growth and development were at risk.
The little elephant must have been terrified, unsure of what was happening around him and without anyone to guide him.
He didn’t know how he would fit in with the other elephants or whether he would be bullied, given that he had no one to protect him.
Without a family, Dok Geaw was at risk of becoming depressed.
However, when the sanctuary workers returned with the baby elephant, the other elephants seemed to sense what was happening.
They congregated and did something that left the workers astounded. The entire herd of elephants rushed to welcome the baby.
These massive creatures made a straight path towards the area where the young one was kept, and then they began to shower him with love and affection.
Dok Geaw saw the other elephants approaching and excitedly called out to them.
Hearing his cries, the elephants knew exactly where he was and how to reach him.
They hurried to his enclosure and extended their trunks through the gate, touching the baby elephant in what looked like a gesture of comfort.
Dok Geaw seemed to understand their intentions and responded by reaching his trunk back out to them. The entire scene was heartwarming.
This show of affection from his peers seemed to lift Dok Geaw’s spirits. He appeared happy to be surrounded by his new family.
Despite the challenges he would face growing up without a mother, Dok Geaw seemed to fit in well.
Elephants follow a strict social hierarchy, with the matriarch naturally leading the pack.
Dok Geaw will always lack the strong female influence, but perhaps he will adopt another female elephant as his new mother, or maybe the entire group will raise him.
Elephants often receive guidance from their entire family, so Dok Geaw can look to the others as his aunts and uncles.
He still has a great chance of growing up to be big, strong, and happy.
In challenging times, the support of a family can make a world of difference.
These elephants may not be related to Dok Geaw, but they have undoubtedly become his family.
