At the age of 98, Ranna is proving that it’s never too late to make new friends. In a heartwarming twist of fate, she has formed an unlikely bond with an owl.
This isn’t just any ordinary friendship; the owl visits her almost daily at her residence in Scottsdale, Arizona.
But for Ranna, this isn’t just a random occurrence. She firmly believes that the owl’s regular visits are a divine sign, a message from her late husband.
The timing of the owl’s first appearance is nothing short of miraculous.
It made its debut on Ranna’s balcony precisely two years after the day her husband’s life was celebrated in a ceremony.
The owl seems to have taken a particular liking to Ranna, often spending the entire day on her balcony.
On some occasions, it even attempts to perch on her lap, showcasing their unique bond.
The extraordinary relationship between Ranna and the owl didn’t go unnoticed. Ranna’s granddaughter, Shai Ward, was deeply moved by their connection.
Recognizing the beauty and rarity of such a bond, she captured their interactions in a video and shared it online.
The video, which quickly went viral, features Shai stepping out onto the porch, warmly greeting the owl.
In the video, Shai playfully addresses the owl, saying, “Look at my grandma’s weekly visitor. Oh hey.”
The owl, seemingly understanding the gesture, blinks back in acknowledgment.
Shai continues, “This guy comes and hangs out with my grandma every so often.”
The video captures a delightful moment when the owl performs a quirky head movement.
Shai, with a hint of humor and affection, remarks, “We think he’s my grandpa. Because you know, why wouldn’t he be.”
The owl, in response, gazes up at her, further deepening the mystery.
Reflecting on her grandparents’ relationship, Shai shared with Good News Network, “My grandparents were best friends, who deeply respected one another. You felt the love around them and from them.”
Their bond was so profound that it’s no wonder Ranna feels her husband’s presence in the owl.
The owl’s behavior around Ranna is genuinely remarkable. While it remains reserved around Shai, it actively engages with Ranna.
In one of their interactions, Ranna approaches the owl and hoots, to which the owl enthusiastically hoots back.
Shai observes, “Every time he sees her, he just starts talking. Seriously, [it’s] the coolest thing.”
Ranna’s affection for the owl is evident.
She often remarks on its captivating eyes, playfully asking, “What do you see up here? You’re not going to tell me? OK.”
Shai isn’t at all taken aback by the owl’s fondness for her grandmother.
She describes her grandmother as “the sweetest soul” and a devout Catholic who attributes her life’s blessings to a higher power.
Shai adds, “Her sass and wit show that 98 is just a number… and her and my grandpa’s relationship was such a sight to see that our whole family just treasured them as one.”
While owls usually maintain their distance from humans, Ranna’s bond with the owl is an exception, making their relationship all the more special.
Typically, owls, especially the smaller breeds, prefer solitude and avoid human interaction. Larger owls might be more tolerant due to their proximity to human habitats, primarily to feed on rodents.
However, the bond between Ranna and her owl is undeniably unique, challenging the usual norms.
